The CASA Connection

Message from the Executive Director

Hello Friends of CASA,

We were delighted to welcome many of you to our CASA Mad Hatter Gala on October 2nd.  It was an exciting event where we had the pleasure of sharing an inspirational story from one of our advocates and the family she has supported for many years.

For those who joined us, I hope it was a memorable evening for you.  One highlight for me was being able to see 14-year-old Zander on stage, playing drums with the band!  It certainly connected with me, and I hope it was an extraordinary experience for all.

We hosted just over 200 guests, with additional volunteers, committee members and board members who helped make the event a big success.  Thank you for your support!

We are sincerely grateful for all that you do to support nearly 350 vulnerable children served by CASA this year.  Enjoy the changing of the season and we hope to see you soon at the next CASA event!

Warm regards,

Thank You to Gala Supporters and Attendees!

Thank you for all that you did to make this year's CASA of DuPage County Mad Hatter Gala a resounding success!  We proved that Nothing is Impossible by attending the event in person, enjoying an inspirational and fun night out, and raising $182,000 for vulnerable children in DuPage County.  On behalf of our Gala Committee co-chairs, Karen Patton and Luke Vanderbloemen, we are truly grateful for your generosity that supports abused and neglected, and vulnerable children in our community.

Welcome New Board Member - Lee Roupas!

Lee is the Assistant State's Attorney, First Chair, Criminial Prosecutions Bureau of DuPage County

Lee joins the CASA of DuPage County board of directors with 10 years of experience as the assistant state’s attorney in DuPage County.  He manages hundreds of felony cases annually and is no stranger to the juvenile court system.  Prior to his current role, he was assigned as a supervising attorney in the juvenile division, where he was introduced to CASA and first learned that every child in DuPage County abuse and neglect court has a trained volunteer advocate.

When talking with Lee he shared, “I have always been impressed with the role volunteers take on as they advocate for children.”  He continued, “It is truly a unique and special service that is provided to the community.”  Lee said he wanted to join the board of directors because he knows how important the role is that CASA plays in a child’s life and he wants to help make sure that the program in DuPage County remains strong.  He knows not all communities are as fortunate as DuPage to have a CASA program, but a successful and vibrant CASA directly correlates to safe children, thriving families and a prosperous community.  Lee's draw to CASA was through his passion for children and his first-hand experience with advocates' ability to protect society’s most vulnerable victims.

Lee is a resident of DuPage County in Glen Ellyn with his wife, who is also an attorney, and two boys—ages 6 and 3.  Welcome Lee!

We are fortunate to have you on our board of directors!

Make the Holidays Brighter for Children and Teens!

As we move into the winter months when so many of our children have limited resources, we are collecting gift cards for children and teens to purchase needed items such as winter coats, hats, gloves; or other personal necessities.  Gift cards give children the power of choice to select the items they would like, as so often they have no opportunity for personal choice for their clothing or other needed items.

If you would like to collect gift cards for vulnerable children in your workplace, church, community group, family or friends group to help us in this effort, please contact Vicki Shaw at 847-414-9492 or vicki@dupagecasa.org.
