Robbery

On Sunday, November 24, 2024, the Department of Campus Safety received a report of a robbery that took place at approximately 8:20 p.m. near the middle, west side entrance at Washington Place of Washington Square Park in Manhattan.

The victim, an NYU student, was walking through the park when they were approached by a group of individuals who confronted the student, stating, "Give me your money or get fists to your face." The student stated they did not have any money. A member of the group took a box of cookies and a bottle of water away from the student and the group fled east.

The student reported no physical injuries and was offered supportive resources. The student declined to report to NYPD.

Description of Suspects: The student reports the suspects are male-presenting with dark complexions. The individuals were wearing tops with black hoods, black pants, and black beanies.

Be aware of your surroundings, especially when walking alone.
Walk in groups whenever you can. There is always safety in numbers.
Using a smartphone or other electronic devices, especially with earbuds, can be distracting and may make you a vulnerable target for an assailant.
Trust your instincts. If you feel that you may be in danger, seek out others or an open NYU facility that has Campus Safety Officers posted.
If you are the victim of a crime, do not engage with the assailant as that may put you in further danger.
If you are the victim of a crime, call 911 immediately and then report the incident to the Department of Campus Safety at (212) 998-2222.
