Southeast Minnesota's need for Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics is expected to grow by 8.9% over the next ten years.  Students interested in a career in health care can explore our region's most in-demand jobs during the month of January on FutureForward™.

National Youth Science Camp

Do you have or know high school seniors (class of 2021) who would benefit from a prestigious science experience this summer?  


The National Youth Science Camp is a FREE 3+ week experience for 2 delegates from each state. This camp usually occurs in the mountains of West Virginia, but this year it will be held virtually from June 28 – July 21.

Here are some of the highlights:
  • Daily lectures and seminars with leading scientists
  • Directed studies alongside visiting and resident STEM professionals
  • Engaging activities in the natural, physical, computer sciences, and creative art
  • Opportunities for delegates to engage with STEM professionals, staff, and each other in fun and meaningful way
  • Special events and surprise guests throughout NYSCamp
  • 4.5 hour commitment per day, mostly in the late afternoon/evening hours.
  • Delegates attend free of charge
Eligible 2021 seniors must apply by February 28, 2021 and the Minnesota Department of Education will select the two Minnesota delegates who will attend this year.

Southern Minnesota Articulation Meeting
January 22nd is the next opportunity to participate in the Southern Minnesota Articulation Meeting, held online. The following Agriculture courses will be reviewed: Agronomy, Livestock Production, Soils, Related Welding, Electrical Wiring, Machine Assembly & Reconditioning, Applied Math for CTE, and Small Gas Engines. Healthcare represents 17% of all jobs in Minnesota, and the industry is expected to grow tremendously in the next decade. The Health Care and Social Assistance sector comprises establishments providing health care and social assistance for individuals. The sector includes services provided in hospitals, clinics, nursing, and residential care facilities.

Just in time for Healthcare Month, Mayo Clinic is offering a webinar to students who are interested in careers in health science. This hour long seminar will help students to refine their resumes, write cover letters, and prepare for interviews. This is a great opportunity for students who have their sights set on working at Mayo Clinic or other organizations.
