Howdy!

From FOW to finals week, this fall has been truly fantastic for the Corps of Cadets. Our cadets have shown leadership and perseverance throughout the semester, and have served as excellent stewards of the Corps’ values. I am proud of our cadets and the dedication to excellence that they’ve displayed since the start of the school year.

This will be my final newsletter until after the New Year, but I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your love and support of our Corps! Without your commitment to each of our cadets, we would not be nearly as successful as we are.

It is because of you that the Corps is able to continue to achieve our central mission: developing well rounded leaders of character who are prepared to serve our state and nation across all sectors.

As we head into the winter break, I encourage each of you to continue to support your cadet throughout their Corps journey. For some, this will be the first extended break of their college career. It is important that you continue to encourage your cadet to look ahead and prepare for the spring semester, as many important Corps and University events lie ahead. They have achieved great success up to this point, and their accomplishments will only become more significant from here.

I am excited for the New Year and an even better spring semester on the Quad.

Cadets take oath at Commissioning Ceremony in Reed Arena

On December 16th, the Corps of Cadets proudly commissioned 48 new Second Lieutenants and Ensigns into the United States Armed Forces. As a part of Texas A&M’s greatest time honored tradition, these young men and women are following in the footsteps of thousands of Aggies before them by committing to protect and defend our country.

We are very proud of each of these now former cadets and their commitment to serving our nation. We know that the lessons they have learned in Corps of Cadets will serve them well into the future, and we look forward to seeing all that they will accomplish as the newest officers in our nation’s military.

May God continue to bless them and their families as they embark on this journey. Congratulations and good luck, ladies and gentlemen!

Colonel Byron Stebbins ‘78 Retires

Earlier this month, the Office of the Commandant celebrated Colonel Byron Stebbins ‘78 (USMC, Ret) and his retirement from the Corps of Cadets.

For over 44 years, Colonel Stebbins has relentlessly and selflessly served both our nation and Texas A&M. From Cadet Training Officer to his final role as the Interim Commandant, Colonel Stebbins has made a profound impact on the Corps of Cadets in each of the positions he has assumed. Though our team has lost an important member, we are excited to see what this next chapter of Colonel Stebbins’ life will bring for him and his family.

Thank you, Colonel Stebbins, for all that you have done for the Corps. You have left this organization stronger than it was when you first arrived, and we hope to make you proud with what we accomplish in the future.

Corps Women's Soccer team holds Championship tshirts

Corps Women's Soccer Team Named Rec Sports Champions

On December 4th, the Corps Women’s Soccer team won the Rec Sports Championship game by an impressive 12-1 score! This decisive win included goals from cadets Abby Flot, Anna Olmedo and Lilli Jordan.

Congratulations to the Corps Women’s Soccer team on their championship win and for all of their success throughout this semester. Their hard work and dedication has paid off, and we look forward to seeing them dominate once again next season!

We are excited to be able to offer such a wide variety of activities for our cadets! It is always a great pleasure to celebrate the successes of our Corps athletics teams as they compete!

Corps of Cadets Association Gifts Baton Rack To Fightin Texas Aggie Band

The Corps of Cadets Association recently presented the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band’s Drum Majors with a new baton rack. After it came to the attention of the CCA that a new rack was needed, CCA member Doug White '78 graciously volunteered to craft a new one.

Because of the generous efforts of the CCA and Mr. White, the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band’s batons now have a worthy resting place when not in use by the Drum Majors.

Holiday On The Quad Recap

This year’s Holiday On The Quad was a huge success! The event had a wonderful turnout, with cadets, community members, fellow students, friends and supporters of the Corps joining us for an evening filled with holiday festivities.

I would like to extend my greatest thanks to those who came out! Being able to welcome the local community to the Quad is always a joy. I would also like to extend a special thanks to our cadets for serving as great hosts and organizing several wonderful booth activities for our visitors.

Dawson Richburg '23

Dawson Richburg ‘23 is a Poultry Science major from Katy, Texas.

Currently a member of Company E-2, Dawson also works as a Research Assistant with Texas A&M’s Poultry Research Facility.

“Being a part of the Corps of Cadets has given me insight into what makes a true leader. I have come to understand that failure is a part of life, and the only thing that matters is how you choose to respond to it. As a cadet, I’ve been able to live the true Aggie tradition and become a part of the Texas A&M spirit,” Dawson said of his time in the Corps.

After graduation, Dawson plans to obtain his Ph.D. in Poultry Breeding and Genetics and one day work in the field of poultry research.

We are very proud of Dawson and all of his success, both on and off the Quad. We look forward to seeing all that he will accomplish in the future, as we are sure that he will continue to go above and beyond in all that he does. Good luck and Gig ‘Em, Dawson!
