Last days to apply to 2021/2022 CMU Portugal Ph.D. Scholarships
The Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program and Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), have an open call for up to 12 Ph.D. Dual Degree scholarships for the 2021/2022 academic year.
Each Ph.D. program has its own application deadline (all in December), so if you are a potential candidate be sure to not miss yours!

CMU Portugal Orientation Day: welcoming the 2020/2021 new students
The CMU Portugal Program held its 2020 Orientation Day on October 11, at Fundação Luso-Americana (FLAD) to welcome the eight new Dual Degree Ph.D. students and offer a look at what they can expect from the next years under the Program. Joining the group were other 6 Ph.D. students and 6 alumni, that participated onsite or online to share their CMU Portugal Dual Degree experience.

CMU Portugal Session at Ciência 2020 Summit
On November 4th, the CMU Portugal Program held the Session “CMU Portugal – Defining New Frontiers in Technology Within the Health Sector” at Ciência 2020 Summit, the central Science Conference in Portugal promoted by the Ministry of Science Technology and Higher Education (MCTES) along with FCT.
This year's edition was mostly remote and the Program was able to host a very fruitful discussion held online and offline, that included presentations from 3 (three) representatives of our new Large-Scale Collaborative Research projects related to the Health Sector.

CMU Portugal Inside Story: interview with Alumna Andreia Gonçalves distinguished this year at the Portuguese Women in Tech Awards
Andreia Gonçalves won this year the Portuguese Women in tech Award for best Lead Designer track. Andreia is a CMU Portugal Master Alumna in HCI and currently works as an Interaction designer at Nokia Solutions and Networks.
Proud to have been distinguished with this Award, she explained to us how she became a woman in tech, her experience under the CMU Portugal Program and her main ambitions. Most of all, the message that she wants to leave for other young women is the importance of education and of believing in yourself.

More than 100 participants attended the CMU Portugal Dual Degree Ph.D online Info Session
The CMU Portugal online Info Session “How to apply for a CMU Portugal Dual-Degree Ph.D. Scholarships” was a meeting point for future candidates to learn more about the application process and discuss any potential questions and concerns. The event’s objective was successfully achieved with a total of 104 participants from all over the globe.

Job Opportunity: Research grant in Computer Science and Engineering under project SyNAPSE
A Call is open under the scope of project CMU/TIC/0083/2019, funded exclusively by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) under the scope of the CMU Portugal Exploratory Project SyNAPSE. The candidates should have an MSc Computer Science and Engineering or related areas. The grant holder will: learn the internals of programming smart network equipment and catalog the requirements, constraints, and limitations of each platform; help build the first SyNAPSE research prototype synthesis engine and develop optimizations for the synthesis engine to offload functionality to the smart devices.
