To generations of Baylor students, those words represent two unique concepts. Most importantly, the Baylor Line is the connection between students dating back all the way from 1845 through to the present and on into the future. Each student takes his or her place in that line and makes it richer.
In a more literal sense, we call the first-year student section at football games “The Baylor Line” and those students “run the line” at the start of each game, crossing the field and forming the path through which the football team emerges. This activity is an important rite of passage for our new undergraduate students each year, dating back to the 1970s.
As a graduate student, YOU are a part of that first definition. Your hard work, dedication, and all you bring to Baylor University is every bit as important as our freshman undergraduate students. We’d like to acknowledge that and, for the first time, extend the second definition of the line to you. In a few weeks, during our Family Weekend football game on September 19, you will have the opportunity to join the undergraduate first-year students to make that run across the field at McLane Stadium before the game.
We realize that many of our graduate students do not live in Waco and may not have the chance to participate, but we would still like to extend to you the chance to purchase a Baylor Line Jersey if you haven't already. These jerseys are ONLY ever available to first-year students, and for generations, students have come to hold onto their jerseys as one of their most treasured keepsakes of their time at Baylor, a literal reminder of their connection. The jerseys are what students wear when they run the Baylor Line. You don’t have to run to proudly keep your jersey, but you do need a jersey to run. If you can’t make it in person, we’d love to see selfies of you wearing your jersey while watching games remotely and tagging Baylor in your posts on social media.
This idea came together quickly and we’d like to not wait until next year to make it a reality. That means that you’ll need to get your jersey order placed by Wednesday of next week (Sept. 2) for it to arrive in time for the game. Jerseys can be shipped right to your home.
