This semester’s prompt: Mind the gap between the mirror and you. Feel the impassable emptiness between one footstep and the next. Unwieldy cords connect the mind & the hand, the will and what’s done. Intention spoils in the room outside of you. Who can see your imaginary aspect looped in by the orbit of your electrons? Banded attentions change the texture of the room. What slips through? A confused wall warps projection. The body refracting, redoubling, obstructing light. See how shadows splinter space. Keep the negatives in darkrooms. Or break the inside until it’s outside. Inhabit the lukewarm doldrums after the new. No direction in an open field stretching to forever with no finish. What can’t fit through the slats of a mask? Or is it a veil? How does performance change the physical? Write the ways of being lost in the demand for an end to becoming. Plant your attention in the untread corner of the room we’ve called a wasteland. Show us what’s there.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help
Many people feel embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help with their depression or other mental health concerns. But many of these experiences are normal and treatable. The University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is available to help students with issues related to adjusting to college and other psychological, interpersonal, and family problems. They offer individual sessions, group sessions, and psychiatric services. First time appointments may be scheduled online through the CAPS portal or by calling 785-864-2277. CAPS services are provided at no additional cost to currently enrolled KU students who have paid the CAPS required campus fee.

đź“– How to use graphic design to sell things, explain things, make things look better, make people laugh, make people cry, and (every once in a while) change the world
Logos, packages, signs, publications, websites: in the modern world we are surrounded by graphic design. Where does it come from? Why does it look that way? What is it supposed to do?
How to... is the career monograph from graphic designer Michael Bierut. Using examples from a portfolio spanning five decades, Bierut provides the answers, describing three dozen projects from start to finish, with insights into the creative process, his working life, his relationship with clients, and the challenges that any creative person faces in bringing innovative work into the world today.
Read more about Bierut's design manual here, or come upstairs to the Hatch & flip through the pages yourself. The Hatch Reading Room is here for you to de-stress, work on projects, take a reading break, and enjoy a quiet view of campus. Plenty of open tables, comfortable chairs, and of course, books, are waiting for you up on the 4th floor of Marvin from 9-5 Monday - Friday. đź“šÂ
