Financial Aid
Application Deadline: February 15, 2016
On January 12, Dr. Bloomfield sent a note to families about applying for financial aid for the 2016-2017 school year via the NAIS SSS site. Please remember that the deadline for submitting your aplication is  Monday, February 15, including uploaded 2015 W2s and/or 1099s. Parents who are not filing taxes together must also submit individual financial aid applications. Please contact Dr. Bloomfield with any problems or questions.
Director of Development Update
Over the past two months we have interviewed several candidates for the Director of Development position. Today (1/29) two of our top candidates are visiting campus to meet students and faculty in an effort to get to know the school culture. The person who is ultimately hired will oversee all fund raising and alumni relations efforts for The Academy, working under Ms. Tirk's supervision. We hope that
our newest staff member will begin working before the end of February. Stay tuned for more information!
Minutes from the last Academy Parents Council meeting can be viewed here.
Internet Safety Presentation
Academy parents are invited to learn about internet safety from fellow Academy parent Steve Breslow (P'21), an attorney with the US Department of Justice. Steve and his colleague Karen Legace will be at The Academy at 7:00 PM this coming Monday, February 1, to present on this important and multi-faceted topic, and give you a preview of the presentation that they will offer to our students during the Wednesday F block on February 3. The parent presentation could last anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the number of questions raised. Topics covered will include  everything from an awareness of one's digital footprint to cyber-bullying and the dangers of online predators, this will be a fascinating opportunity to both learn and ask questions.
GRANDPARENTS AND FAMILY FRIENDS DAY APRIL 15
Though it seems a long way off, we're beginning to plan for our annual Grandparents and Family Friends Day.  Invitations will go out in March, so please make sure we have your child's guests on our mailing list. Please contact Steph Powers to add or confirm names and addresses.
 Advanced Physics
Students in Mr. Almedia's Advanced Physics class found a sweet way to study waves - a torsional wave machine made out of Swedish Fish, bamboo sticks, and duct tape. We were able to observe how wave pulses reflected off both free and fixed ends, wave interference, and standing waves.
