Despite being a socio-political construct without a biological basis, race unjustly affects our health from the moment we are born until we die. Health disparities are numerous: the data shows that Black people throughout the United States experience higher rates of illness and death across a wide range of health conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, when compared to their White counterparts. Data indicates that traditional means of addressing the Black-White health gap have failed and require a rethinking of how we pursue health equity. This new way of thinking can be spearheaded by the private sector.
To better understand the causes and persistence of the Black-White health gap, NMSC investigated the root causes of the Black-White health disparities in the U.S., reviewed the evidence on interventions that have attempted to narrow these disparities, and interviewed health experts and investors. The findings can be found in the newly published white paper Narrowing the Black-White Health Gap: Opportunities for Private Investment to Drive Progress in the United States.

NMSC and Rhia Ventures have partnered to co-host this learning event to discuss the findings of the white paper and how the private sector can better address the racial health gap through investment. We hope participants of this webinar learn about scalable, evidence-based solutions and innovative solutions (i.e., new delivery models, technologies, and medical insights) that prioritize and benefit people of color that can disrupt traditional approaches to healthcare. The webinar will also provide recommendations from the paper that the private sector should consider when pursuing health equity in their investment decisions.
