University Ministry: Responding to the Call
| |
University Ministry extends its continued prayers for the people of Turkey, Syria, and other countries impacted by the recent earthquakes. We mourn the loss of over 45,000+ people who tragically lost their lives as a result of these devastating natural disasters. We also pray for all those still in critical care and all those who must now rebuild their lives.
We encourage our campus community, especially in this season of Lent, to answer the call to respond to the needs of our global community. Please consider donating to organizations that are doing work on the ground in impacted counties, or lend some of your time to organizations sending supplies overseas.

Arrupe Immersions have been designed to support students who would like to take part in leading an immersion trip. The I-Lead program focuses on forming compassionate and committed leaders based on Ignatian spirituality. This past Tuesday, Feb. 28, Ambrosius "Ruwi" Ruwindrijarto gave a talk to our leaders about his experience as a committed activist supporting the struggle of Indigenous people, farmers, and fishermen towards ecological, social, and economic integrity.
Ruwi has 30+ years of experience working with Indigenous peoples, forest management, and social enterprises in Indonesia. Throughout his career, he has founded and led several organizations working in Indonesia and the broader Southeast Asia region such as Telapak, Samdhana Institute, and Forest Watch Indonesia. Ruwi is the recipient of the 2012 Ramon Magsaysay Award for emerging leaders and was honored with the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2010, and Schwab Foundation's Social Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008.
