Ignatian Teach-In and Crosses on Brebeuf's Front Lawn This Weekend

As families drive onto the Brebeuf Jesuit campus this weekend, they will notice memorial crosses on the lawn representing the Jesuit martyrs who died fighting political oppression during the Salvadoran Civil War.  These Jesuits were faculty members and administrators at the University of Central America when they were martyred on November 16, 1989.
Brebeuf Jesuit will also honor Ignatian values by sending one of the largest high school delegations – a group of more than 30 teachers and students — to the national Ignatian Teach-In for Justice event in Washington, D.C., where Jesuit educators and students will gather to discuss important issues of social reform.
Brebeuf community members are invited to a special prayer service in the Brebeuf Jesuit Chapel with our student and faculty Ignatian Teach-In representatives at 11:15 a.m. (PRT) on Friday, November 6, before our representatives depart at noon for Washington, D.C. Our representatives will return late Monday, November 9, after spending a day on Capitol Hill.

Student Spotlight

AUDREY ROBINS '16
Loves about Brebeuf:
Brebeuf is my home. I love that Brebeuf’s sole purpose isn’t just teaching us algebra and US History and proper time management skills. While all that’s important, Brebeuf teachers and faculty push us to be men and women for others and truly live the Grad at Grads (Intellectually Competent, Loving, Open to Growth, Religious, Promoting Justice). I love that Brebeuf is a place where everyone is valued. Despite the corny-ness of some of our sayings, I buy into all of it and they give me goals for the kind of woman I want to be in the future.
Favorite Class:
English 11 with Ms. Moore takes the cake. She always found a way to engage us in class and relate whatever material we were learning to our real lives. What made that class truly stupendous was how Ms. Moore treated us. Instead of treating us like kids, she addressed us as adults (when we acted like it) and recognized us as more than just students. Also, Ms. Moore happens to be one of the funniest people at Brebeuf so that helped a lot.
Future Plans:
I’m applying to eight Jesuit universities (Regis, Loyola New Orleans, Fordham, Marquette, Loyola Chicago, Santa Clara, Saint Louis, and Xavier with Loyola Chicago as my first pick) and I hope to eventually decide between getting my degree in English, School Counseling/Psychology, or Education.
Teams & Co-Curriculars:

Softball Captain
Timmy Global Health Club Co-President
Jewish Student Union Co-President
Volunteer at Circle City Relief
Gay Straight Alliance member
Presidential Ambassador
Admissions Ambassador
Rhonda in Almost, Maine
Random Fact:
I’m obsessed with sci-fi/fantasy shows like Game of Thrones, Supernatural, and Teen Wolf and my favorite movie of all time is a toss up between A League of Their Own and Dead Poets Society. I’ve been really good this semester about not binge-watching any of them during the school week so during fall break I marathoned through two seasons of Supernatural and Dead Poets Society.
Is Brebeuf as academically rigorous as they say?
Of course! The teachers have high expectations for us and they expect us to do all that we can to succeed. Thankfully, we have the best schedule ever which we can use to our advantage. We’re expected to go in during PRTs or breaks to talk with our teachers or study somewhere around school. It’s really hard to stay on track sometimes but my academic advisor, Ms. Ramos, helps me stay focused and my teachers are all awesome. They’re willing to work with me and help me to be the best that I can be.
Who is your hero?
It may be one of the most clichéd things to say but my heroes are my parents. They’re the most incredible people I know. My mom (commonly referred to as Mama Jules) has the brightest, most loving personality and she has never failed to love and support me through every twist and turn in my life. Whenever I want to talk through a problem, she’s there for me with a killer motivational speech that almost always ends with our favorite line from one of our favorite movies, The Help: “You is smart. You is kind. You is important.” She’s one of the strongest people I know and she also happens to be one of my two best friends, the other being my dad (aka Papa Beans). My dad has been my superhero and my biggest fan since Day 1. He’s been there for every batting practice and softball game, cheering me on and giving me all sorts of pointers. He pushes me to be the best that I can be in whatever I do and believes in me even when I might not. Even though he’s the quieter of my parents, he’s who I joke around with and he’s who I can always depend on for the biggest hug and best/worst dad jokes. He’s got a work ethic made of steel and never complains for a minute about doing what it takes to be successful. They both embody, in their own ways, what it means to a man or woman for others and inspire me to do the same.
What is your dream job?
My dream job is to travel around the world in search of the best food each country has to offer and write about my experiences.

Senior Yearbook Picture Deadline is November 13

Senior students must sit for their senior yearbook picture by November 13, 2015 with Prestige Portraits. Parents and/or students are responsible for making these arrangements. Brebeuf is not informed if a student does not get a photo taken, so failure to do this means that student will not be included in the senior picture section of the Yearbook.
Families may call 317.829.2088 or go to www.PrestigeIndiana.com immediately to schedule an appointment.  These appointments fill up quickly so call TODAY if you have not. (Please Note - Personal senior photos do not need to be taken by Prestige - only the Yearbook pose).
The cost is $15.00 for the Yearbook sitting fee, and wardrobe is provided by Prestige (tuxedo top for the boys, black drape for the girls).
