Student Spotlight

SARAH LUDWIG '16
Loves about Brebeuf:
The faculty at Brebeuf are so incredibly special to me. The teachers are so great here and care about me personally as well as my grades. Even thinking about leaving Brebeuf makes me feel sad because this is probably the last time I will be able to connect with my teachers on such a personal level.
Favorite Class:
My favorite class is currently Yearbook. I was a staff member last year, but now I'm an editor, which makes it even better.
Future Plans:
I hope to attend Saint Louis University next year and potentially double major in business and teaching fields.
Teams & Co-Curriculars:

Member of the National Honor Society
Presidential Ambassador
Volunteer at The O'Connor House
Volleyball Manager
Random Fact:
Everyone always assumes I dyed a section of my hair gray, but it's actually a birthmark.
Is Brebeuf as academically rigorous as they say?
I think it is. After being at Brebeuf for so long, I tend to forget how difficult our school is compared to others in the area. Although the courses are challenging, the level of difficulty really depends on how much effort you want to put into your work.
I remember taking Honors Algebra II freshman year and being completely shocked by how fast we went through material. It was a tough adjustment.
Who is your hero?
My mom is my hero. She is incredibly loving, strong, kind, and intelligent. I am the youngest of four, so when my siblings went off to college, it was just me at home with my parents. Without a doubt, my mom is my best friend. She gives the best advice, and I always tell her anything and everything
What is your dream job?
My dream job would be to own a small bookstore out in a suburb somewhere. I firmly believe that I could be perfectly happy doing that for the rest of my life.

Mass of Remembrance - November 2

Please join us for a Mass of Remembrance on Monday, November 2 in the Brebeuf Jesuit Chapel at 5:30 p.m.
Every year during the month of November the Jesuits of Brebeuf offer our community the chance to remember our departed friends and relatives.
We invite you to join us for this very special mass.  If you are unable to join us, we invite you to submit the names of your departed friends and relatives via email to Jason Smith, Director of Alumni Relations at jsmith@brebeuf.org. These names will be remembered in our prayers throughout the month of November.

Senior Graduation Packets

Seniors who were unable to pick up their graduation packets this week, must see Shani Simonson in the Principal’s Office within the next week to pick up their materials.
These packets contain cap and gown ordering information, and other graduation-related items that are available for purchase.
All graduating seniors must return the completed cap and gown information sheet contained in these packets to Herff Jones on November 18.
A Herff Jones representative will be in the gym lobby on November 18 during the last PRT and after school until 7:00 p.m.
Also please note: Within the packages, a sample graduation announcement was included by Herff Jones that had the incorrect graduation date. Brebeuf Jesuit’s Graduation and Baccalaureate Mass will be held on Sunday, June 5.  More information will be forthcoming.
If you have any questions, please contact Shani Simonson at ssimonson@brebeuf.org or 317.524.7080

National Honor Society (NHS) Application For New Members

Sophomores through seniors with a 3.5+ cumulative GPA are invited to apply to the National Honor Society by completing the NHS application which will be available in the College Counseling Office beginning October 30.
Eligible students must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA at the end of the spring 2015 semester and be at least a sophomore through senior.  Current NHS members do NOT need to re-apply. The application requires an essay and 10 documented hours of community service.
The application is due December 4, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in the College Counseling Office.

Senior Yearbook Picture Deadline is November 11

Senior students must sit for their senior yearbook picture by November 11, 2015 with Prestige Portraits. Parents and/or students are responsible for making these arrangements. Brebeuf is not informed if a student does not get a photo taken, so failure to do this means that student will not be included in the senior picture section of the Yearbook.
Families may call 317.829.2088 or go to www.PrestigeIndiana.com immediately to schedule an appointment.  These appointments fill up quickly so call TODAY if you have not. (Please Note - Personal senior photos do not need to be taken by Prestige - only the Yearbook pose).
The cost is $15.00 for the Yearbook sitting fee, and wardrobe is provided by Prestige (tuxedo top for the boys, black drape for the girls).

Barcelona Exchange 2016

April 2-15, 2016
This long-standing exchange program is an excellent opportunity for Brebeuf students to experience family life in a completely new culture! Students are immersed in the Spanish language, living with host families in Barcelona and attending school daily with their host student. In addition to the host family experience, students will partake in many cultural excursions, among which is a full-day excursion to Manresa and Montserrat, two places with deep Jesuit roots. Students will also tour the world-renowned Gaudí masterpiece, the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia.
Two Brebeuf faculty or staff members will accompany the students and will be available to the students during their stay. As a result of participating in the Barcelona Exchange Program, Brebeuf students gain confidence and proficiency in Spanish. They may even learn a bit of Catalan, the other official language of the region! The experience is unforgettable and truly gives students a taste of the world beyond the doors of Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School.

Spring Break Immersion Trip to El Salvador

From Friday, April 1 to Friday, April 8, a delegation from Brebeuf will travel to El Salvador. We will be hosted by CRISPAZ, a faith-based organization that has been leading trips for school groups in El Salvador for the last 30 years.  During the immersion trip, students will experience the food, culture, and people of El Salvador. Students will learn about the history of the country, including the role of Oscar Romero and the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador. We will also visit the Jesuit University of Central America in San Salvador.  Our accommodations will be modest as we will be staying in simple guesthouses. Daily reflection, discussion, and journal writing are all essential aspects of the trip.
A word about the trip from CRISPAZ:
The CRISPAZ El Salvador Encounter is for people who are willing to have their lives touched and forever changed. During your time in El Salvador you will have the opportunity to meet with Salvadorans, hear their stories, and accompany them for a short time in their daily lives. As a group of North Americans, you will also have the opportunity to reflect together on the challenge this experience offers personally, politically, and spiritually. We hope that the stories you hear and the experiences that you have will lead you to continue to work towards justice and peace in El Salvador and in your home community. To participate in an El Salvador Encounter is to enter into an ongoing dialogue with the people of El Salvador, a dialogue which we hope will challenge and change your heart, mind, and spirit.
The application will be available beginning Monday, October 26 and due by Wednesday, November 4. Please contact Nick Klingler (nklingler@brebeuf.org) with any questions.
