Progress continues on Strategic Plan development |
As the summer break reaches its midpoint, so too has the development of the Radford University Strategic Plan.
During June’s quarterly Board of Visitors meeting, the board approved a draft mission statement, which is subject to final approval by SCHEV. In addition, a new vision statement and core values, inspired by community input received during town halls in spring 2025, are in the final stages of development.
| | |
The implementation planning committee is nearing completion of an implementation roadmap, which includes:
-
Development of a responsibility assignment (RACI) matrix
- Identification of metrics and key performance indicators
- Prioritization and sequencing of plan components
- Identification of resource and funding requirements for each plan component
The university community will have an opportunity to learn more about the strategic plan’s progress during a pair of August town halls:
- Main campus: Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 10-11:30 a.m., Kyle Hall 340
- Roanoke: Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 10-11:30 a.m., RUC Board Room
Both meetings will be offered virtually on Zoom, and links will be sent closer to the event date. Archived recordings will be available following the town halls. The new strategic plan remains on track to be submitted to the board for initial review in September and for final approval in December.

Planned data center firewall upgrade on July 12 |
On Saturday, July 12, at 5:30 p.m., Radford University’s Information Technology Services will perform a scheduled upgrade of the firewall hardware at the Armstrong Data Center. This upgrade will improve both performance and security, offering increased throughput and enhanced protection for campus network traffic.
What to expect:
- Full outage of data center services during the maintenance window. This includes access to Whale, H: drive and VPN.
- Internet connectivity from campus will be unavailable during the upgrade.
- E-mail, D2L and other cloud-based services will remain accessible and are not expected to be impacted.
-
The maintenance window is expected to last approximately two hours.
It is recommended that all users plan accordingly and complete any time-sensitive tasks before the scheduled outage. Information Technology Services thanks the Highlander community for your patience as they continue to enhance the reliability and security of Radford’s IT infrastructure.
