Did You Know? | RVR Tree Counts |
Did you know that RVRMA reduced the required tree count per lot in recent years? In 2019 the DRC and RVRMA Board of Directors passed the Fourteenth Amendment which lowered the minimum planting requirement to one tree and three shrubs per 1,000 square feet. Most in the community may be well over their minimum requirement and have room to reduce the number of trees on their lot. Some have opted to remove trees situated close to their homes creating a defensible space from fires, for example.

| |
As a kind reminder, any improvements to the exterior of your home will require approval from the HOA. Many landscape projects can be approved through the Administrative Approval process including tree planting & removal. Please be sure to fill out and submit a Home Improvement Application for any exterior changes to your home.

New Year's Eve Swim Challenge |
Master Swim Coach, David Clark shared the message below following the First Annual New Year's Eve Swim Challenge. Congratulations to all who participated!
Happy New Year!
I hope everyone felt really good about starting off their New Year with the First Annual NYE Swim Challenge followed by what turned out to be a truly awesome potluck. I think everyone will agree that we had a great turnout and you should all be very proud of what you accomplished.
We had a total of 20 swimmers participate in the swim - 12 swimmers did the entire 4500 meters and 8 others did some variation there of ranging from 2,025 meters to 500 meters.
Collectively the swim totaled 67,925 meters which is 42.2 miles in roughly 5 hours! Pretty impressive by anyone's standards.
The Spirit Award went to Carrie, Miranda, Hannah and Susan (pictured above) - not sure if there was more laughing or more swimming but, they nonetheless got the job done.
Hope to see you all next year and maybe even see you in the pool for some Masters Swim Sessions in the meantime.
Cheers,
Dave

Cari Shurman, Certified Teacher of Qigong, has been twice to China to study at the Qigong Medical Center. Qigong is based on the same principles as Traditional Chinese Medicine - opening the body for healthy flow of energy to all organs, muscles, joints etc. Cari has been teaching Qigong for over 30 years and has developed a program based on Qigong called Tai Chi for Kids© that is taught in schools around this country and the world.

It is an ancient system of movement and meditation for health and longevity. Qigong (Chi Kung) started in China about 4000 years ago. It is offered in hospitals all over the US and the world to enhance medical treatments. Qigong increases energy flow in the body to all of the organs, helps us release stress and feel more relaxed in everything we do. It makes us feel better and it is easy to do!
Below is a link to a video of a 10 minute warm up to improve the flow of our chi (internal energy) first thing in the morning. You might enjoy trying it. And then join us for one of the two special classes being offered at the clubhouse in January. And of course our regular zoom classes are very beneficial whenever you can drop in. (Monday and Wednesday at 8 a.m.)
