Chancellor's Update: 'Twas the Night Before Finals

The upcoming holidays will be extra special this year as we appreciate even more the people and activities we hold dear. It’s also a busy time as we wrap up an historic semester. UWM’s Fall 2020 Virtual Commencement

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is excited to celebrate and congratulate the Class of 2020 with a virtual commencement. We’re incredibly proud of our graduates for persevering during unprecedented times. Virtual commencement will be available on Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will include a student speaker, a UW Board of Regents speaker and keynote speaker Michele Bria, chief executive officer at Journey House. UWM is also celebrating its graduates in other ways, including lighting Milwaukee's Hoan Bridge in black and gold this week. READ MORE

Looking Ahead To The Spring Semester

UWM recently shared a message with students, faculty and staff as planning for the spring semester continues. Classes will continue to be offered in a mix of face-to-face, online and hybrid formats, meaning spring semester is likely to look much like the pre-Thanksgiving fall semester. But there is hope that if public health conditions improve over the coming months, there will be ways to expand in-person student services and activities. READ MORE

Reminders For Self-Reporting COVID-19 Positive Tests, Quarantine Requirements

All students who test positive or are diagnosed with COVID-19 based on symptoms must self-report their illness with the Dean of Students Office. Plus, UWM has not changed its guidance and recommends that anyone exposed to COVID-19 should continue to quarantine for 14 days as recommended by some local health departments. READ MORE

UWM Libraries Reach Fundraising Goal For Archives Relocation

The UWM Libraries' Archives Renovation Project has met its campaign goal of $2.8 million. Jumpstarted by an anonymous and unsolicited gift of $1 million in 2017, along with additional donors and the state of Wisconsin completing the funding, the transformative project will provide the Archives Department with a new space within the Golda Meir Library. UW System Waives Electronic Application Fee

The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents this month approved waiving electronic application fees at 10 of its 13 universities for approximately the next two years. The fee waiver includes UWM.

Milwaukee Winter Parking Regulations 

The city of Milwaukee's winter parking regulations are now in effect for streets around the UWM campus. Regulations run through March 1.

Winter Means Shoveling For Students Off-Campus

Not many people like shoveling snow or salting sidewalks, but it has to be done. In Milwaukee’s climate, winter is inevitable, and it is important for property owners and renters to know their responsibilities regarding sidewalk snow and ice clearance.

Panthers Protect Panthers Website 

UWM has a website to educate students on slowing the spread of COVID-19 and keeping the community safe. There is also a COVID-19 Self-Care and Monitoring Guide available for students.

Off-Campus COVID-19 Testing Sites

Impact 2-1-1 provides the latest list and hours for COVID-19 testing sites across Milwaukee County. Additionally, there is a listing of testing sites across the state, including in Waukesha and Washington County. Most of these sites will remain open during the holiday season.

Panther Pride Website

Show your Panther Pride by downloading yard signs, Facebook frames, video backgrounds and more. This website is a great resource for FREE graphics and more content is being added regularly.
