When do you listen to Classical KC the most?
I listen to Classical KC throughout the day. I love waking up to Classical KC, I love working with Classical KC in the background, and I love listening while cooking dinner after a long day.
Favorite composer:
Choosing a favorite composer is like asking me to choose my favorite child! It’s no easy task. I have a fondness for the work of composers who included the ever-so-perfect trombone. Ask me about why Gustav Holst’s The Planets holds a special place in my brassy heart.
What excites you about classical music?
Classical music has a bit of something for every mood. If you’re feeling melancholy, you can find a piece that will reinforce or cheer you up. If you’re in the mood for exercising, you’ll find a piece to back your beats. Most of all, the incredible work of composers and talent of musicians put together creates an accessible art that reflects our spectrum of human emotion and experience.
What recording or piece of music would you bring to a dinner party to introduce guests to classical music?
I might start with something recognizable – the “top 40” of classical music – or more likely, I’d start playing a soundtrack by Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone, Elmer Bernstein, Rachel Portman or Max Richter – something that provides an instant “this sounds like my life” moment.
