Dear Eagle Nation:
We remain focused on keeping members of our community engaged and healthy throughout the fall semester especially as we enter cold and flu season. I want to remind everyone of the importance of observing proper handwashing, and to be mindful of how germs spread to keep us all healthy and safe.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises to take the following precautions to help stop the spread of germs:
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and throw tissues
in the trash; - If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow, not your hands;
- Immediately wash your hands for at least 20 seconds after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. This is one of the most effective ways to prevent spreading germs and getting sick.
- If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol to clean your hands.
- If you are feeling unwell, please stay home and maintain distance from others. You should also follow-up with your primary care or local urgent care provider for guidance.

I also want to make people aware that the Community Health Center is no longer providing regular COVID screening or testing. The Community Health Center is also not providing vaccinations for COVID-19 or the flu, at this time. While the FDA has approved a new COVID-19 vaccine, the Community Health Center we do not know whether vaccinations will be provided in the future. We encourage every member of our community who is able, to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and the flu as vaccines are made available.

Coppin State University is a mask-optional campus, and members of our community are encouraged to wear a mask if they are more comfortable doing so.
If you suspect that you have contracted COVID-19, please self-test and speak with your primary care provider. Remember, we all play a role in maintaining a safe and healthy campus.

State Senator Cory McCray and Demetria McCray (’05) Launch Endowment to Support Future Educators
Thank you to State Senator Cory McCray and his wife, Demetria McCray (‘05), who have launched an endowment at Coppin State University to help support future educators. The Demetria Boyd Foundation Merit Scholarship Endowment will support students in the School of Education who maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, and are verified voters in Baltimore City.
Demetria, a teacher in Baltimore County Public Schools, credits her success to her experiences and training she received as a student at Coppin State University. She says her experience at Coppin helped her mature and gain her independence. “I felt like I could do anything once I left here, I felt prepared."
“There aren’t as many Demetria’s that get across that finish line that there are supposed to be,” said Senator McCray. “We have that responsibility to make sure young folks from Baltimore City have that path. Supporting education is another form of giving back.”
