University of Oregon
Dear Student Services and Enrollment Management Team,
It is an exciting time of year with students having returned to Eugene and classes are now in full swing. Seeing a lively campus full of engaged and happy students is evidence of all the great work the SSEM staff is doing to make the University of Oregon a fantastic place to learn. Thank you everyone!

Move-In and Week of Welcome
Our newest Ducks moved into their residence halls in late September, unofficially signaling the start of Week of Welcome (WOW). From Unpack the Quack to the 2022 class photo and time-lapse video in Autzen Stadium, WOW was a tremendous celebration and a wonderful introduction for our newest members to the Oregon family.

Preliminary figures indicate that our entering class stands at 4,203 students—an eight percent increase from last year—making this class one of the largest in the UO’s history. The entering class is also represented by 36 percent domestic minorities, while PathwayOregon enrolled more than 800 students—both are UO records.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring in a great class and to those who helped make WOW a success this year.

University Health Center names new executive director
Debra “Deb” Beck, director of administration in the Habif Health and Wellness Center at Washington University in St. Louis, has been appointed the next executive director of the University Health Center. Deb brings years of leadership experience and a background as a clinician to the position. Her 18-year tenure at Washington University was marked by many great successes and I look forward to her arrival at the UO on November 12.

The nationwide search was chaired by Julia Pomerenk, assistant vice president for student services and enrollment management and university registrar. Thank you to Julia, the search committee, and everyone else who participated in the search processes.

Renovations and Relocation to Oregon Hall
It has taken many months for some SSEM departments to relocate to their permanent homes in Oregon Hall. Thank you for your patience to everyone who was affected by the displacement and moves this past year. We now have more functional and beautiful spaces to better serve our students, families, and staff. Now that the dust has settled, I hope you’ll come visit the new spaces:

Office of Admissions: Suite 201
Office of the Registrar: Suite 234
Financial Aid and Scholarships: Suite 287
Student Orientation: Suite 450
Office of Research and Assessment: Suite 460
Office of the Vice President: (including SSEM Budget, Director of SSEM Marketing and Communications, and Development for Scholarships and Student Support) Suite 470

Fall 2018 SSEM Advisory Board Meeting
The Fall 2018 SSEM Advisory Board Meeting kicked off Thursday and runs through today. The board, which is made up of high school leaders from across the nation, is meeting to learn more about what’s happening on campus, our plans for student recruitment, and to provide insight on how to best serve our current and prospective students. If you happen to meet any advisory board members, I hope you’ll introduce yourself and say hello.

Again, thank you all for your continued hard work and support of our great students.
Sincerely,
Roger J. Thompson
Vice President for Student Services and Enrollment Management
