The bone marrow drive will take place at Brebeuf Jesuit on Friday, August 28.
Donor Drive Details:

Parent-Teacher Conferences - October 14 (Formerly Grade Night)
On Wednesday, October 14 all teachers will be present on campus to meet with parents from 4:00-7:00 p.m. to discuss their students' progress so far this semester. No appointment is needed, as teachers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. While parents are welcome to meet with all of your student’s teachers, please feel free to meet with only those in which you have a question or concern. We politely ask that conferences be kept to 5-10 minutes, so that the teacher can be available to all parents. If you find you need more time, the teacher will ask that you schedule an appointment for a later date.
The teachers and the academic counselors will be organized alphabetically in two areas for meetings: the West Gym and the East Gym. Teachers with last names Annee-Karle will be located in the East Gym, and A. Keele-Woodcock will be located in the West Gym.  The Learning Center teachers will be located in the Learning Center (Room 111). Teachers that are located in the East Gym will take a break from 5:00 - 5:30 p.m. and teachers that are located in the West Gym will take a break from 5:30 - 6:00 p.m.
Don't miss this opportunity to chat with your child's teachers about any of your concerns or ideas. Parent-Teacher Conferences are designed to give parents and teachers time to meet and find ways to help your child succeed!

Student Spotlight

JESSICA EISENHOOTH '16
Loves about Brebeuf:
I love the relationships I have with my teachers and also the rest of the staff. I consider them to be friends rather than teachers. I know I can go to any of them with any issue I'm having even if it is not related to that class.  The teachers genuinely care about each of their students and do everything they can to help you succeed. The teachers here teach so much more than just the basic material.  They make constant connections between the material and the real world which helps me see the purpose in learning about things that I never thought I would use after high school.  They have helped me grow into the person I am today.
Favorite Class:
Any of the Spanish classes I have taken at Brebeuf.  I have always been intrigued by other languages and I find Spanish fascinating.  I'm one of the few seniors actually taking a fourth year of a language at Brebeuf this year.  I know I'm going to learn much more this year in Spanish 5, and I'm up for the challenge.
Future Plans:
I hope to attend Clemson University in South Carolina next fall.  I'm considering majoring in psychology, but I'm still undecided. However, I do know that I want to pursue a career that has to do with helping others.
Teams & Co-Curriculars:
Girls Golf
Football manager
Admissions Ambassador
National Honor Society
Young Republicans Club
Random Fact:
I can play the piano. About four years ago I played my mom's favorite song, "The Scientist" by Coldplay, on the piano for her birthday.
Is Brebeuf as academically rigorous as they say?
Brebeuf is definitely academically rigorous.  I've had to work harder to maintain my good grades at Brebeuf than I ever have before.  Spanish 4 Honors last year was one of the harder classes that I have taken at Brebeuf.  There is a lot of information to learn in a short amount of time.  I had to study often and keep up with all the new material that we were learning. But Señora Brown is a fantastic teache,r and she knows how to teach the class really well. It took a lot of time and effort, but it definitely helped me in the long run.
Who is your hero?
My parents would have to be my heroes. I'm an only child so we are pretty close. My parents have worked extremely hard in life to get where they are today and have taught me to always work hard as well.  They have taught me to be kind to everyone I come across and many more valuable life lessons.
What is your dream job?
My dream job would have to do with helping underprivileged children or children in bad situations. I'd love to help them individually or one-on-one, but also I'd love to help them in a broader or more general sense.

Students from Barcelona Arrive on August 28

Exciting news! On August 28, nine students from our sister school in Barcelona, Collegi Casp-Sagrat Cor de Jesús (CASP), will arrive to spend three weeks with host families and attend classes here at Brebeuf. These young people will shadow their host students for part of the day and attend other classes according to unique schedules that have been created for them. Our host students have been in contact with their guest students for many weeks now, and these young people from Barcelona are very excited to become part of the Brebeuf community!
Our student hosts and their CASP guests in parentheses are listed below:
Chase Mulholland (Gemma Nomdedéu Sancho), Caroline Davis (Irene Comás Hernandez & Violeta Fischer Urruti), Devin McDuffie (Laia Herrera), Meredith McDuffie (Xénia Garcia I Tarrach), Mary Clare Sullivan (Helena Gené Skrabec), Emory Preacher (Judith Ortega Playà), N’Dos Onochie (Nausica Vicens Salomon), Sarah Hipskind (Laura Zayas Costa), Hailey McLaughlin (Irene Anglada Robert), Jillian Niceley (Anna Sans Cusá), Abigail Boldt (Helena Valls Pi).

Schedule Senior Picture Appointments

All members of the Class of 2016 must sit for their formal yearbook portrait with Prestige Photography by November 11, 2015. Failure to schedule and sit for this portrait by November 11 will mean that senior will not be featured in the 2015-2016 yearbook! The yearbook must be submitted to our printer in pieces throughout the year, with specific deadlines for each part. Unfortunately, no exceptions can be made! A yearbook-only portrait sitting fee is $15, and Prestige provides the wrap the ladies wear and the tuxedo top the gentlemen wear. Families are NOT required to use Prestige for their personal senior photos – just the yearbook photo. Contact Prestige today via phone (317.829.2088) or online at PrestigeIndiana.com to get an appointment.
Questions or concerns? Please email the yearbook instructor, Ms. Hadley Moore, at hmoore@brebeuf.org.

IU Honors Program - Summer Language Immersion/Travel Opportunity

Every summer Indiana University offers a language immersion program to Indiana high school students. It is a unique opportunity to participate in a “total immersion” foreign language program in Chile, China, France, Mexico and Spain. This program significantly advances language skills and fosters cross-cultural understanding. The program combines academic language learning, cultural instruction, host family living and exciting educational excursions. Each year, Brebeuf Jesuit students are selected to participate in this 7-week program.
If your student is currently enrolled in a level 3 language class or higher and would like to apply for this opportunity, please have them talk to their World Language Teacher or Mrs. Peggy Poole. For more information, click here

Upcoming Sending School Festivals

Support our Brebeuf Jesuit students’ middle school alma maters! A couple of our sending schools have festivals coming up that should not be missed:
Immaculate Heart of Mary is hosting its seventh annual Fall Kick-off Fest on August 29. Along with food, drink, games, and live music, the festival will be highlighted by the sixth annual 5K run/walk featuring 800 runners and walkers.
St. Luke Catholic Church’s fourth annual Fall Fest will take place on September 19. It will feature an array of delicious food and drink, a great lineup of local musicians, and other activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Join Team DAJ for the Out of Darkness Walk

On Saturday, September 12 at Celebration Plaza in White River State Park, hundreds of walking teams will come together at 3:00 p.m. to take positive strides to prevent suicide through the Out of the Darkness community walk downtown.
This year, Brebeuf senior Joe O’Neil ’16 and members of our student leadership have again registered “Team DAJ” for the walk and invite all members of our community – parents, faculty, staff, alumni and friends - to join in and support the cause of suicide prevention. Last year, Team DAJ raised over $3,000 in this effort
To join Team DAJ and/or donate to the cause, click here.
Net proceeds from the Out of the Darkness Community walks benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). To learn more about AFSP's mission, educational outreach, support, research and programs visit www.afsp.org.

Nature Photographer's Work Now in the Cordell Gallery

The Visual & Performing Arts Department and the Mothers Association welcome the work of photographer and animal lover Tom Gross to the Cordell Gallery (facing the Principal's Office) at Brebeuf Jesuit.
Gross, a native of Lafayette, Indiana, has had solo exhibits at the Nature Center of Holliday Park and at Watson's Crick Gallery at Purdue University, and he has won several awards.  His photographs have been included in the prestigious Nature Conservancy touring exhibit, Preserving Place: Reflections of Indiana.  He has had work accepted at many juried shows, including the Friends of Columbian Park Zoo in Lafayette, the Paisley Salon in Great Britain, the Smethwick International Exhibit in Scotland, and multiple Photographic Society of America (PSA) exhibits across the US.
Please visit the Cordell Gallery soon to enjoy Gross's work.  You may also view his online gallery at http://www.Pbase.com/tkgross.

PE Credit for Athletic Participation

The Indiana State Board of Education has provided flexibility to adapt the high school Physical Education requirement for students to meet the state standards.  Brebeuf Jesuit allows students to earn one credit of their PE requirement by participating in an IHSAA-sanctioned sport.
All students must still earn one credit of their PE requirement by taking either the traditional PE course either during the summer, or during the school year.
Students who wish to complete a PE credit through athletic participation must first register by submitting the online form. A message will be sent tomorrow, Friday, August 14, to all freshman and sophomore families with a link to register.
The deadline for registration credit through a fall sport is Friday, August 28.
If you have any questions, please contact Amy Pitcher at apitcher@brebeuf.org.
