What is PSU’s financial outlook in the short- and long-term? All employees are invited to learn more at Financial Sustainability Forums this Wednesday at 10 a.m. and this Thursday at 9 a.m. Tune in remotely or join in person in SMSU 327/8/9. Today is the deadline for PSU Research Award nominations
PSU's annual Research Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of research faculty, graduate student mentors, and administrative professionals at Portland State. Nominations must be completed today, Monday, Nov. 14, to be eligible for review.
McNair scholarship deadline extended to Nov. 25
The McNair Scholars Program has extended its deadline. The program, in its 20th year at PSU, is for current Juniors who are low-income, first-generation or under-represented students who want to pursue PhDs. Applications are now due on Friday, Nov. 25th. In-person and Zoom informational sessions are still available and are listed here. Please direct your students to the McNair website or email remcnair@pdx.edufor more information about this incredible social mobility opportunity.
Help students with finals success at the Learning Center
Finals are almost here! Set your students up for success by letting them know they can meet with an academic coach or peer tutor from the Learning Center to set goals and discuss study strategies. Learning Center services are free and open to all students. Faculty and staff can also submit a request for our ROADS to Success presentation series on topics such as motivation, time management, and study strategies to be presented in your classes.
PSU Choirs perform “O Fortuna” this weekend
The Portland State Rose Choir, Thorn Choir & Chamber Choir present their eclectic mix of Classical greats alongside modern masterworks (accompanied by images from the James Webb telescope), as well as world music from India and Africa. And of course, highlights from Carl Orff's world-famous Carmina Burana as a preview to our full production with The Oregon Symphony in February. Performances are Friday, Nov. 18 and Sunday, Nov. 20. Tune in to KOIN6 on Thursday for the PSU Showcase
This Thursday, PSU is taking over the airwaves on KOIN, KCRW and koin.com. Throughout the day, you can catch PSU students and community advocates speaking about the important role that PSU plays in our city culminating in a 7 p.m. broadcast. The hour-long showcase, hosted by Adam Bjaranson '95, features stories from alumni, students and faculty and donation opportunities, along with a performance by the PSU Chamber Choir, a tour of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art and much more. This special day of giving is part of a partnership with KOIN6, the PSU Foundation, PSU alumni association and University Communications.
Library display celebrates the “No on 9” victory
Witness the power of community organizing with the exhibit “An Urgent Appeal: Coalition Activism in Response to Oregon’s Ballot Measure 9," at the Millar Library. The exhibition, curated by the PSU Library Special Collections & University Archives staff in partnership with Gay & Lesbian Archives of the Pacific Northwest, chronicles the community organizing on campus and throughout Oregon to defeat Ballot Measure 9 in 1992. The measure would have prohibited education, expression and civil rights protections related to sexuality and gender within Oregon’s Constitution, public schools and offices of government. The exhibition is on display in the first floor elevator lobby of Millar Library through Dec. 9.
Sign up for the 3v3 Basketball Tournament
Join Campus Rec for a 3v3 Basketball Tournament on Monday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. Play 2-3 pool play games followed by a single-elimination tournament. Join the open division (no gender requirements) or women's+ division (open to women, non-binary and trans folks). Free for PSU students and Campus Rec members. PSU faculty and staff can self-sponsor themselves as a guest for $7 per person. Register as a team or free agentby 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21.
