Advent with the Room In The Inn Community
Dave Pomeroy's annual Christmas Unlimited benefitting Room In The Inn

Residents of Nashville have a unique understanding of the power of music. Melodies, harmonies, and rhythms can speak when words fall short. They open our hearts to new possibilities and bring us together in community.
For many of the people at Room In The Inn, music is more than a pastime, it is a lifeline. Songs connect us with deeply held memories and help us dream of a better future. That is why we fill the spaces at our campus with music, and work to make sure our community is included in the Music City experience. A typical week will include performances in our café by Country Music Hall of Famers, music therapy classes, and time to let loose with karaoke.
During this time of year, we are especially reminded of the powerful at the heart of the first Christmas story:
|
-
Mary’s song of a world turned upside down: “He has brought down the powerful from their thrones and lifted up the lowly; he has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty.” (Lk. 1:46-55)
-
Zechariah’s prophetic vision: “Because of the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to shine upon those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Lk. 1:67-79)
- The song of the angels: “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!” (Lk. 2:13-14)
-
And Simeon’s quiet song of fulfillment as he held the infant Jesus:
“My eyes have seen your salvation which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples.” (Lk. 2:28-32)
|
As we await and work toward better days, may we do so with a song in our hearts and on our lips:
a song of hope,
a song of mercy,
a song of peace.
|
Fill Room In The Inn, and all our city,
With harmonies of compassion and rhythms of grace.
And as we wait for better days,
Place a song of hope on our lips
And love in our hearts.
Amen.
