Penn Updates

Penn released a message to the Penn community regarding plans for the fall semester. At this time it is expected students will be able to return to an in-person teaching, research and residential environment for the fall of 2021.

The Future of Higher Education Webinar Series Recording

To better understand “Higher education’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Council of Europe, the Ithe International Consortium for Higher Education, Civic Responsibility and Democracy (chaired by Netter Center director Ira Harkavy), Civic Responsibility and Democracy, and the International Association of Universities have co-edited a book, published in the Council of Europe higher education series, describing various ways in which higher education (both as a sector and as individual universities) is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Authors come from all corners of the world and debate various aspects of higher education and impacting higher education and society at large. Click HERE to access the recording!

Parks and Rec Summer Youth Employment Program
Each summer Parks & Rec hires youth and young adults to work at their sites. The Philadelphia Youth Network provides Parks & Rec with two types of positions:
- WorkReady program for youth ages 14-18.

- State/Local Internship Program (SLIP) for young adults ages 19-24.
Youth workers assist the department in a variety of ways. They build their communication and leadership skills. Many interact with both younger children and adult staff. Click HERE to learn more!

Lifeguard Training Resumes at Parks & Rec 

High-powered heaters have allowed Parks & Rec to begin lifeguard training for the first time since March 2020. 
Each year Philadelphia Parks & Recreation hires hundreds of lifeguards. One of the best paying summer jobs around, Parks & Rec lifeguards earn up to $16.97 per hour, with starting pay set at $14.74 per hour.

The pool at Samuel Recreation Center will host all training and certification classes.
