BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT
Wednesday, August 19
Back-to-School Night is designed to provide parents the opportunity to attend an abbreviated version of their child's class schedule (without their child).
This year, Back-to-School Night will take place on Wednesday, August 19, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., unless your student has a Zero Hour course.  If your student has a Zero Hour course, your night will begin at 6:53 p.m.
Parents will meet briefly with each teacher to learn about course content and policies for homework, testing, and grading.
You will receive an email from Amy Pitcher on Tuesday, August 18, with a reminder, a full agenda for the evening, and your child's schedule. Please bring the schedule with you to use as a guide.
Plan to arrive early to allow for a few extra minutes to find your way to your student's first-period or zero hour classroom once you are in the building.
For more information, please contact Shani Simonson in the Principal's Office at 317.524.7080.

Student Spotlight

EMMA CARESS '16
Loves about Brebeuf:
My favorite thing about Brebeuf is how accessible the teachers are! They are always willing to help you. I also love all the amazing opportunities that are available here. Whatever you love, there is something here for you!
Favorite Class:
My favorite classes would be the three classes I took with Ms. Manton: Honors Algebra II, Honors Geometry, and Honors Finite/Precalculus. I liked math coming into Brebeuf, yet Ms. Manton taught me how to find a love in math and has pushed me to be a better student. During my sophomore year, she even pushed me to enter into IUPUI's math contest. (Editor's Note: Emma placed third overall in this highly competitive contest and was awarded a $2,000 cash scholarship to IUPUI.)
Future Plans:
After Brebeuf, I plan to further my education by one day going to medical school. I have a combined love of philanthropy, travel, and public health/medicine, so I hope one day to be able to combine my interests.
Teams & Co-Curriculars:
Varsity Girls Basketball & Cross Country
Co-president of Math Club
Pre-med Club
Tatum's Bags of Fun
Presidential Ambassador
Admissions Ambassador
National Honors Society
Caress Family Foundation & Various Philanthropic Organizations
Random Fact:
I absolutely adore rainy, overcast days. They definitely bring me immense happiness.
Is Brebeuf as academically rigorous as they say?
I would definitely agree that Brebeuf is as academically rigorous as they say; however, with all the amazing help that teachers provide here at school, one definitely has the resources to succeed. I can remember many times during both my freshman and sophomore years utilizing the math office a ton!  The most important thing I have learned is that you have to have good time management and utilize the teachers that are available to help.
Who is your hero?
Both my mom and dad are my heroes. They both push me to do my best and make it happen; however, they also teach me to live in the moment and make sure that I am always doing the things that I love and that bring me happiness.

Jen Lamaster Named to the Jesuit Virtual Learning Academy (JVLA) Board of Trustees

Assistant Principal Jen Lamaster was recently named to the Jesuit Virtual Learning Academy (JVLA) Board of Trustees.  The JVLA's vision is to "utilize technology to connect every Jesuit secondary school throughout the world for the benefit of their students, teachers, administrators, parents, alumni and friends."
Jen has long been an advocate for all in the Brebeuf community to attain the growth needed to use technology in the Jesuit ideal and this position will provide an opportunity for her to engage an even larger audience. Congratulations Jen!

Crew Callout Meeting

There will be a callout meeting for all students interested in crew tonight at 6:00 p.m. for new team members and parents, and 6:45 p.m. for returning team members and parents in LGI 102.
Brebeuf crew members participate as part of the Indianapolis Rowing Center’s Junior Program. This is a multi-school program that fulfills the PE requirement.

Freshmen Interested in Becoming Brave Day Hosts

Freshmen interested in becoming Brave Day Hosts may pick up an application from the Admissions Office beginning this Friday, August 14.  Applications are due back to the Admissions Office on Friday, August 28.  Trainings will take place the following week.
Please direct all questions to Amber Lamkin at alamkin@brebeuf.org.

PE Credit for Athletic Participation

The Indiana State Board of Education has provided flexibility to adapt the high school Physical Education requirement for students to meet the state standards.  Brebeuf Jesuit allows students to earn one credit of their PE requirement by participating in an IHSAA sanctioned sport.
All students must still earn one credit of their PE requirement by taking either the traditional PE course either during the summer, or during the school year.
Students who wish to complete a PE credit through athletic participation must first register by submitting the online form. A message will be sent tomorrow, Friday, August 14 to all freshman and sophomore families with a link to register.
The deadline for registration credit through a fall sport is Friday, August 28.
If you have any questions, please contact Amy Pitcher at apitcher@brebeuf.org.
