CABINET LETTER FROM MARK CHIARUCCI

Dear De La Salle Community:
As we enter the month of November and the season of “Giving Thanks,” it is only appropriate that I begin this letter with these two words. Thank you.
The first few months of fall came fast and furious for everyone on campus, including the Advancement staff here at De La Salle.
Starting the year with A Taste of De La Salle, more than 550 parents, alumni, and friends shared great food, great libations, and, most importantly, great community. Affinity alumni events, Athletic Hall of Fame activities, and other gatherings followed, and we moved quickly onto the Golf Classic, which took center stage. The sold-out event once again provided a chance for our community to come together. And, somewhere in the middle of all of that, our Communications team launched a new website, which we hope has been more user-friendly for all of our parents.

The phrase "thank you" doesn’t seem enough to convey our wholehearted and deepest gratitude for the tremendous support we received during De La Salle Giving Week. Because of you, we were able to smash our goal and raise $498,679! The impact your support will have on our young men, our faculty, and our staff will be felt throughout the school year.
We want to thank all the students, faculty, and alumni who shared their Spartan Shine with us via our video messages. If you missed any of them, please visit vimeo.com/dlshsconcord.
We also want to take a moment to thank some very special donors - each of whom gave our school some incredible match gifts: John and Diana Salter, Albert ‘92 and Mindy Seeno, Frank ‘73 and Lynn Wagner, Rich and Helen Gates, Bill and Megan Patterson, Vince and Michelle Saunders, Steve ‘83 and Kellie Abreu, and six anonymous donors.

De La Salle met its goal and delivered more than 2,000 boxes of cereal to the Monument Crisis Center on October 23. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who donated, as well as to the students who helped Ms. Shelley collect cereal boxes every morning and all the parent volunteers who helped load and drive the cereal to Monument Crisis Center. Because of you, there are many families in Contra Costa County who are able to enjoy a hearty breakfast. Our top student donors were Manny Montez, Aiden Safarians-Tyron, and Jack Williams!

Put the "Happy" into Thanksgiving. Show your love and gratitude for a De La Salle employee this Thanksgiving by purchasing a special De La Salle Thanksgiving Pie from Danville Bakery.
All you have to do is place your order online between now and November 16. The pies will be freshly baked and delivered on the last day of school so that our employees can take them home to enjoy with their families.
What could be happier than that?

Do you know any 7th or 8th-grade families that might be interested in De La Salle for their son? If so, tell them there are two immediate ways they can explore what makes De La Salle so special. This Sunday, November 5, we are hosting an Open House for prospective students, including transfers. The event begins at 9:30 am and concludes at noon.
Future Spartans will get to visit our campus, see model lessons, receive faculty insight, and meet a number of program directors and coaches. The event also features presentations from our President, David Holquin, and Vice President for Academic Life, Dr. Heather Alumbaugh.
Interested families can also sign up for our Spartan for a Day shadow program, which provides special tours to 8th grade and transfer students. Our last two Spartan for a Day events are taking place on November 8 and 9. For more information and to register for these events, please guide them to our Admissions Visit page.

Congratulations to junior Trey Caldwell (Cross Country) for being named October's Student-Athlete of the Month by De La Salle Athletics and Golden State Orthopedics and Spine. Trey recently won the individual sweepstakes at the prestigious Mt. SAC Invitational. He also won the Crystal Springs Invite with a school-record time of 14:55! Trey and his teammates are now gearing up for the EBAL, NCS, and CIF State Championships.
As we move out of the regular season into playoff season, there will be plenty of opportunities to cheer on our Spartans. In the meantime, we are ramping up for winter sports, with tryouts happening this week. Be sure to check out Spotlight on Athletics for more information.

It has been a busy few weeks for Campus Ministry. Last week, we were able to deliver over 2,000 boxes of cereal to Monument Crisis Center to help feed local hungry families thanks to generous donations from our community. In addition, we had five students attend our first Ven a Ver trip of the school year, where they helped prepare and serve food to guests at Dorothy's Place in Salinas. Then, yesterday, our students gathered together in celebration of All Saints Day Mass, which also served as the backdrop for a special recognition of Doug Bauman (our HPER Department Chair), who saved the life of a spectator during one of our football away games. Click on the Spotlight on Campus Ministry button to learn more about these (and upcoming) Campus Ministry activities.
