#FacultyFriday featured Catherine Sausville, Director of Undergraduate Studies and Senior Instructor for the Department of Mathematical Sciences, for earning the Dean's Engagement Award. Sausville embodies all the true values of a Patriot, going above and beyond, serving in Mason’s Faculty Senate for several terms, and volunteering for many strategic planning committees in addition to being in charge of the department’s undergraduate committee and the extremely busy Math Testing Center. Mason researchers studying zoonotic transmission pathways by Elizabeth Grisham
Taylor Anderson, assistant professor, Geography and Geoinformation Science, and Amira Roess, professor, Global Health and Epidemiology, are studying zoonotic transmission pathways. They aim to investigate unknown transmission pathways at the human-wildlife interface in urban settings and to integrate these relevant pathways into a modeling framework that can more broadly predict the risk of spillover from wildlife to humans.

Mason researchers develop quantum algorithm for nonMarkovian quantum dynamics by Quantum News
Biochemistry and Chemistry assistant professor Fei Wang and postdoctoral research associate Peter L. Walters have developed a path integral-based quantum algorithm designed to simulate nonMarkovian quantum dynamics in open quantum systems. The research, published in Physical Review Research, focuses on a quantum system linearly coupled to its harmonic bath. Their work was recently reported in the Quantum Zeitgeist. Tests are available at One Stop or Express convenience stores on the Fairfax Campus, and at Student Health Services clinics during operating hours. Outstanding Achievement Awards: Nomination Deadline
The Global Education Office (GEO) invites all faculty across the university to submit a proposal for the Customized Faculty-Led Program Proposal, which allows students to travel over university holiday, with Mason faculty, and earn Mason credit. GEO is accepting Customized proposals until the deadline of May 1, 2024, for courses held in winter break, spring, summer, fall 2025. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks February 26, 2024 | 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The College of Science STEM Accelerator, Women Leaders in STEM, and CVPA's Visiting Filmmakers Series are pleased to collaborate on a free screening and discussion of the feature film "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks". The film tells the story of Henrietta Lacks, an African-American woman from Roanoke, Virginia whose cells were used without her consent to create the first immortal human cell line.
