Helping You Find Your Off Campus Rental

Welcome to the fourth edition of finding your off campus home! You can expect to receive the next steps of the rental process on Wednesday, July 22.
This week, focus on narrowing down your options and signing your lease. Make sure to get your lease looked over by the University Legal Clinic prior to signing it.
In this newsletter you will find:

Narrowing Down Your Options

There are many things to consider when choosing the rental property that is best for you. Make sure you have background checked both the landlord and the property before making your decision.
Now is a good time to reference those photos and videos you should have taken during your showings to compare the properties you are be considering.

Rental Applications

Before you sign a lease, you will have to fill out an application for the unit you want to rent. Rental companies will often have you pay a fee, not to exceed $25, with your application. If you think you would like to apply for a unit, make sure to be prepared with all the necessary information at the showing.

University Legal Clinic

The University Legal Clinic will look over all leases free of charge for enrolled UWM students. This helps to ensure that they are no illegal clauses in your lease. The University Legal Clinic can also provide you with any legal advice you may need during the rental process.

Signing Your Lease

After your lease has been looked over by the University Legal Clinic and your rental application has been approved it is time to move forward with signing your lease.
