Greetings, Volunteers!
It may be getting cooler outside, but we're still making the most of the lasting daylight by getting outside and putting our raised bed gardens to rest. We hope each and everyone of you finds time to enjoy all that this beautiful season has to offer.
We are always looking for new volunteer opportunities to feature. If you know of any organizations that are currently looking for volunteers, please don't hesitate to reach out!
As always, to sign up for an event this month and receive a month of free Garbage to Garden service, RSVP by email, and we will help answer any questions you may have. Remember, events are first-come, first-serve.
Happy Composting,

SMAA Phone Pals
The goal of the Phone Pal program is to improve the quality of life for older adults and adults with disabilities. A Phone Pal Volunteer provides homebound older adults and individuals with disabilities with companionship by regularly calling on the phone in an effort to decrease feelings of isolation and loneliness. Calls generally occur 1-3 times a week based on the volunteer and client preferences and availability, and these details will be considered when matching volunteers with clients. Volunteers are expected to demonstrate active listening skills and sensitivity toward possible differences in background or views on things such as religion, sexual orientation, or cultural experiences.
Email the SMAA for more information or to get involved!

Currently, they are looking for volunteers to sew masks out of blue sterilization material for those on the front lines. They've already distributed over 5,000 masks, but need more! Volunteers are also needed to sew together pre cut gowns for local healthcare workers.

Growing to Give
Brunswick, ME
Growing to Give was founded in April 2017 by a group of 16 people who came together around the idea of growing organic vegetables using climate-friendly methods, and donating them to local people struggling with food insecurity through food pantries and other food access sites. They have a busy season coming up and need your help more than ever to ensure their fresh, organic veggies get to those who need them most. This month, they will be gleaning consistently on Monday mornings. Gratefully, they are able to provide a volunteer opportunity in a beautiful setting where social distancing can be easily practiced!
Volunteers are asked to sign up in advance for two-hour shifts. They are staggering the comings and goings, keeping the work groups to no more than 10 people at a time, maintaining 6 feet or more between people at all times. For more information please find their COVID-19 precautions outlined on their website. To volunteer, click here and submit the New Volunteer Application Form
Location: 30 East Coxon Road, Brunswick.

FBC is currently looking for volunteers who have a heart for ensuring people have enough food to eat and are available on Wednesdays to organize and distribute food and/or break down and clean up. They are operating a 'no contact' food pantry for the safety of volunteers and patrons. Volunteers would be able to practice social distancing and be safe and healthy.
