Early Career Women Faculty Leadership Development |
Allison Eberly and Jasmin Herz were both selected by AAMC to attend the 2024 Early Career Women Faculty Leadership Development seminar. The application process was competitive and having two recipients being selected from the same WUSM department, speaks volumes to the excellence of these women.
They both found the experience invaluable to their career development.
Dr. Eberly shared that "The AAMC Early Career Seminar for Women Faculty seminar was chock-full of seminars, discussions, and networking with other like-minded academic women in medicine. Beyond networking with peers around the country in a variety of disciplines, I really enjoyed the presentation by Candace Doby on the topic of “how to speak up and own your brilliance”. This session emphasized that while we are all different, everyone has strengths and it is about learning how to step out of your individual comfort zone and courageously speak up.
Dr. Herz reflected the most beneficial aspect was connecting with women mentors who candidly shared their pathways to higher faculty positions and how they navigated their careers. I was inspired by a leader who emphasized, "I am proud of my failures." Additionally, the discussions led by Marjorie Spencer on medical school finances were unexpectedly insightful. Networking with 149 peers from across the country and world was both enriching and super fun.
