The University of Notre Dame Band will kick off its 174th year with a marchout around campus. A traditional campus event ringing in the beginning of a new school year, the marchout will feature both veteran band members and students auditioning for a spot in the 2019 Band of the Fighting Irish.
Thursday, Aug. 22; 9 to 9:30 a.m. beginning outside the Ricci Band Rehearsal Hall, the band plans to march past several Notre Dame landmarks including the Hesburgh Library, Clarke Memorial Fountain, and Grace Hall. The marchout will conclude at Ricci Family Fields.
Join fellow art lovers in the exhibition “‘Looking at the Stars’: Irish Art at the University of Notre Dame,” for an in-depth discussion of one of its works. Guided by the group’s observations and insights, Snite Salons encourage close looking and thoughtful conversation about a different work each session.

Theater: “Sorin: A Notre Dame Story” “Sorin” stars Anthony Lawton ’89 as Father Sorin in a transformational performance that carries the audience through a journey of faith, character and resolve. From his voyage to the United States to rebuilding Notre Dame from the ashes and more, this play is a window into Father Sorin’s life and the history — and hopeful future — of Notre Dame. Notre Dame Children’s Choir Fall Auditions The Notre Dame Children’s Choir is accepting applications for the 2019-20 season for children ages 5-17 for an after-school choral program. Register now for an audition time slot. Spaces limited.
Audition times: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 27-29; 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 115 S. Frances St., South Bend
International Student and Scholar Affairs is seeking families and individuals to participate in the Family Friendship Program for the 2019-20 academic year. The program pairs international students and scholars with members of the local community to help international students learn more about American culture and make the most of their time at ND.
Deadline to sign up is Friday, Sept. 1. Kickoff dinner for participants is Tuesday, Sept. 24, campus location TBD.

Sakai Workshops Hands-on Sakai workshops are offered in mid-August before classes start. Instruction will cover Sakai basics, setting up your Gradebook and a more in-depth look at learning modules with Lesson. Bring a laptop and a syllabus or course outline so you can develop your course site during the workshop. Register here.
Gradescope is a new online tool that saves time when grading assignments or exams. It digitizes and streamlines the grading process so instructors give consistent, constructive feedback quickly. Gradescope doesn’t require rewriting existing assignments or exams and can work as a substitute if you previously used Scantron.

Young Leaders of Notre Dame: Clean Up Cool Down
Come clean up and have some fun along the East Race Waterway with YLND! https://youngleaders.nd.edu/events/ Starting at Leeper Park, volunteers and their families/guests can participate in a river bank cleanup. You can cool down afterward in an exciting ride down the East Race on the St. Joseph River, which is one of the only urban whitewater rafting courses in the country! Social at Corby’s to follow. Undergraduate Student Move-In: Aug. 20-26Undergraduate students begin moving into on-campus residence halls the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 20. While student move-in will occur continuously through Monday, Aug. 26, a majority of students will move in during the time frames listed below. Heavy congestion can be expected throughout campus, and University departments are encouraged to consider avoiding these times when scheduling deliveries and other operations.
