By Leah Carnow,
Hebrew College Rabbinical Student
“Bet is two / … Bet is second chances / … Bet is two sides (at least!) to every story...”
To start the new Torah cycle, fourth-year rabbinical student Leah Carnow’s reflection on Parashat Bereshit (Genesis 1:1-6:8) takes the form of a carefully and creatively composed poem around ב (Bet), the second letter in the Hebrew alphabet.
“We Begin again / Because we / Believe / We believe / It’s a real good bet.”

"Hebrew College's MaTaRoT Center for Professional Learning & Leadership is honored to host colleagues from the progressive Amsterdam Jewish community for this week, including both veteran educators and teen madrichim. Our main focus for their learning is on how to enact Project Based Learning in their schools. We are taking this rich opportunity to talk with them about pluralism in the American Jewish landscape, as well as to learn from them about their own experiences of pluralism in their home Jewish communities," said Hebrew College Vice President Dr. Susie Tanchel.

By Matthew Schultz, Hebrew College Rabbinical Student
and Jewish Journal columnist
Do you need to believe in God to convert to Judaism? For the Torah, “belief” does not mean “belief in the claim that something exists,” but rather is an expression of trust, loyalty, and dedication.
Read Hebrew College rabbinical student and journalist Matthew Schultz's response to this question, recently posed in an issue of Hey Alma, in this Jewish Journal article.
