NEWS FROM THE ACADEMY PARENTS COUNCIL (APC)

APC Meeting and Work Bee, TOMMORROW May 26
There's lots to do and plenty of opportunity to join other Academy families at the annual Academy Parents Council Work Bee tommorow (always held on the Saturday morning before Memorial Day). We will be weeding and painting and digging and building and drinking coffee and talking....and students are welcome to help too!

The schedule for the day is:
9 AM:   Academy Parent Council meeting (last one of the year)
10 AM: Morning Work Bee shift starts
12 Noon: Afternoon shift starts

If you've signed up, we're grateful. Even if not and you and your family are willing to donate a few hours tomorrow, we promise it will be fun and productive, so come on over to campus!

For questions contact Work Bee organizer Phoebe Walker or APC co-chairs Diane Bigelow and Paul Catanzaro.

Concert Schedule - June 1

Students will have A, B, and C Block classes on Friday, June 1. Students participating in the Spring Concert will be transported to Memorial Hall in Shelburne Falls at 11:30 AM in order to rehearse on stage. These students should bring a bag lunch with them, to be eaten at Memorial Hall. Students who are not participating in the concert may be dismissed at 11:30 AM with prior parental permission - please contact Jen Mitchell in the Main Office to provide said permission.  Afternoon buses will be departing from Memorial Hall at 3:15 PM, with any students who have remained on campus being transported to the hall prior to that time.

Classroom Close-ups

Spanish 2 students have learned cultural aspects of many countries. Our last unit is Chile and students prepared a traditional Chilean dish, empanadas.
The 7th grade Climate Connections class visited The Springfield Materials Recycling Facility on Wednesday. They had the opportunity to see where their recyclables go and learn more about the process.

Junior Hopes to Build an Outdoor Bread Oven - JUST 9 DAYS LEFT!

Chessie R-G '19 writes, "In Environmental Science I am working on a project to construct an outdoor bread oven for our school. The oven will help us learn about sustainability (specifically about sustainable food/eating). Hopefully it will become a great community center for the school. I am fundraising in order to buy the materials for construction. My goal is $500. All donations will go to cover materials.*

You can donate and also find out more about the project at this link.
*The donation page is open and $370 of the $500 goal has already been collected. The campaign will only receive funds if its goal of $500 is met by June 2. Please donate!

Annual APC Staff Appreciation Luncheon:

Tuesday, June 12 at The Academy

As the end of the school year quickly approaches, please help the Academy Parents Council celebrate the staff at the annual Appreciation Luncheon on Tuesday, June 12. There are a variety of ways you can participate. You could contribute part of the meal, or help with set up/clean up/serving. Food not your thing? You could provide beverages or a floral arrangement for the tables. Please take a look at how you can help and sign up here.

If you would like to contribute but are not able to get your items to The Academy, please contact the coordinators for this event (see below) to make alternate arrangements.

Thank you for your help in recognizing the dedication to our children by The Academy's hard-working faculty and staff!

Questions? Contact Jodi Howe P21 or Meg Clark P21.
