Applications for NAR 2026 Good Neighbor Awards Close on April 10th |
According to the 2025 NAR Member Profile, 68% of REALTORS® volunteer in their communities—twice the rate of the typical American. To celebrate this impact and spotlight the community service efforts of REALTORS® across the country, the National Association of REALTORS® hosts the Good Neighbor Awards. The program honors real estate professionals who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to volunteer service and whose work creates lasting, meaningful change in their communities.
“Service is at the heart of what it means to be a REALTOR®,” said NAR President Kevin Brown. “The Good Neighbor Awards recognize members who strengthen neighborhoods, support families and help communities thrive through volunteer service. We are excited to see the nominations and celebrate the impact REALTORS® are making every day.”
Five winners will each receive a $10,000 grant for their nonprofit organization and be honored in November at NAR NXT, The REALTOR® Experience, in New Orleans. Additionally, five honorable mentions will each receive a $2,500 grant.
Since its launch in 2000, the Good Neighbor Awards have recognized more than 260 REALTORS® for their volunteer efforts and contributed more than $1.5 million to REALTOR®-led nonprofit organizations. Past winners have impacted communities across 43 states and Puerto Rico, as well as 17 countries worldwide.
“The Good Neighbor Awards powerfully showcase the true heart of community commitment and the profound difference dedication achieves,” said Anna Marie Castiglioni, Head of Realtor.com® Next. “Realtor.com® is deeply inspired by the passion of these REALTORS®. We are proud to again be the primary sponsor of the Good Neighbor Awards, championing these worthy charities and amplifying the incredible impact these REALTORS® create—an impact that reaches far beyond bringing people home.”
Applications for the 2026 Good Neighbor Awards must be submitted by April 10, 2026. To be eligible, nominees must be an NAR member in good standing and should have made a significant impact as a volunteer for a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Nominees are selected for the award based on their community impact through volunteer work. For additional details, judging criteria and to apply, visit nar.realtor/gna or call 800-874-6500.

PAR: Energy- and Disaster-Related Home Improvement Spending Trending Upward |
| |
|
“Although relatively few homeowners pursue projects with energy efficiency or decarbonization as a primary motivator, market spending on any improvement that ultimately impacts home energy use has expanded greatly in the past two decades,” says Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies 2025 Improving America’s Housing report.
More than a third (34%) of owner improvement expenditures in 2023 were for projects that affected energy use, including exterior and insulation, HVAC, electrical and water heaters/built-in equipment. That was up from 27% in 2003.
For older homes, spending on energy-related projects is considerably higher.
According to most recent 2023 data, the average homeowner of a home built before 1960 spent $1,7000 per year on energy-related projects (36% of total improvement spending), and that number was higher for homes built from 1980-1999 ($1,820) and from 2000-2009 ($1,780). In comparison, homeowners of homes built from 2010-2014 spent an average of $1,160, and those owning homes built from 2015-2019 spent $490.
