Educator Update

Hello 4-H Families,

I hope everyone has gotten some much needed rest after the fair. I really enjoyed seeing all of the 4-H'ers and their families. This month brings us more opportunities to gather and grow as a Dunn County 4-H Community. In the newsletter you will find information about softball, YAC, Leaders council, Cloverbud Day Camp, and 4-H night at the races. All of these activities gives us the chance to connect across the county. Please consider attending some, or all of these great events.

On an equally important (but far less exciting) note, the annual financial report is due to me by September 1st. You will find more information in the newsletter.

Club and Project Leaders need to get the Annual Financial Reports turned into the extension office by September 1st. Follow the links to access the Financial Report and the Audit Checklist.. Please contact the extension office if you have any questions.

4-H Softball

There are still a couple of games left for the 4-H softball season. This is a great way to meet new people, or hang out with the friends you made at the fair. Check out the schedule for the remaining games.

Beef Promotion Contest

The Wisconsin Beef Council and Wisconsin 4-H Foundation is kicking off a beef promotion contest. From now through September 4-H clubs that plan and launch a beef promotion can enter a contest to win a great prize package. Promotional displays can promote any aspect of the beef industry, but must fit into one of three contest categories: beef production, beef for consumers and benefits of beef.

National 4-H Congress

Registration is now open in 4HOnline for National 4-H Congress through August 5th!

National 4-H Congress is a five-day Educational Experience held in Atlanta, GA. Congress is the premiere nation-wide event for 4-Hers to network with others from around the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. While at Congress, 4-Hers engage in leadership, citizenship, global awareness, and inclusion. Highlights include educational workshops, exploring the city, international events, community service, educational tours, and the National Congress Gala.

Upcoming Events, Programs, and Activities

4-H Night at the Races!

Dunn County 4-H is partnering with the Red Cedar Speedway to bring you 4-H Night at the Races. On August 18th, all Dunn County 4-H members will get free admission to the races (discount is offered to 4-H members only, parents and relatives have to pay the full entry fee).

We will be hosting a pre-party at the Rec Park for the 4-H'ers and their families starting at 4pm which will include:

Snacks (donated by Ellsworth Creamery and the 4-H food stand)
Lawn Games
Crafts
Raffle Prizes
A Visit From the Race Car Drivers

Before the race, all of the 4-H'ers will be invited onto the track for the national anthem and to recite the 4-H Pledge. We will have our own special section of the stands to sit in during the race.

Cloverbud Day Camp

August 19th 9am-1pm
County Government Building
Cost: Free
Lunch is included

Registration is open on 4-H online for the Cloverbud Day camp for kids in grades k-3. Join us for crafts, games and stem activities. A free pizza lunch will be included for all participants.

Photography Project Meetings

Starting in September, the Photography Project will be holding monthly meetings. Every other month they will meet at 6pm on the third Monday of the Month in the County Government building. The other months they will be taking photography field trips. Those meeting times and place will be determined. Join us for the first meeting on Monday September 18th at 6pm. Please let us know if you are interested by filling out the quick form.

Youth Activities Council

The YAC will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, August 22nd at 6:30pm at the Government Building. Everyone in 6th grade and up are invited to attend. We will have an activity and then vote for new officers. This is a great place to see the friends you made at the fair and 4-H softball. If you haven't attended a meeting yet, now is a great time to start!

Trip Funding

The Dunn County Leaders Council is excited to help fund your 4-H trip or activity! The Leaders Council is committed to funding 10% of all state and national trips and activities. The Leaders Council may fund at greater amounts depending on the number of participants and budgetary allowances.

New Volunteer Training

If you are a new volunteer, or would like a refresher, VIP training is being offered virtually.

The next Leaders Council Meeting will be on August 31st at 6:30pm in Room 60 of the County Government Building. We will be voting on new officers. Please attend if you are available.

You Can Help Support Youth Mental Health

In Wisconsin 4-H, we understand our important role in helping to build emotional health in youth. Volunteers can help by creating safe and welcoming spaces and acting as trusted adults. Supporting Youth Mental Health training supports you as volunteers, as you support youth. It’s important to know how to be there for youth when they’re down, whether it’s simply a bad day or it’s more than that.
