Yun: Possible Economic Downturn Likely to Be Mild

The country isn't in a recession yet, despite two consecutive quarters of national contraction of the gross domestic product, a commonly cited indicator of an economic downturn, says Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the National Association of REALTORS®. Other economic indicators are likely to mitigate the effects of the slowing economy.

Mortgage Rates Dip Below 5%; Buyers Get 'A Second-Chance Opportunity'

After weeks of escalating borrowing costs, home buyers are getting a second chance to lock in lower rates. The average monthly mortgage payment has seen a 12 percent reduction in just two months as high borrowing costs moderate.

Cheltenham to Consider Rental Registry and Inspection Ordinance

Cheltenham Township commissioners voted to advertise a proposed rental registry and inspection ordinance for consideration and adoption. The proposed ordinance would require registration, annual licensing and periodic inspection of residential rental properties. The proposed ordinance also sets additional requirements for buildings with 100 or more rental units and penalties for violations. Tentative plans are to hold a public hearing for the proposed ordinance on Wednesday, August 17. Visit the Cheltenham Township agenda page for up-to-date information.
