Network of Complementary Schools
Students who were on campus during F block this past Wednesday learned about the Network of Complementary Schools, an organization of twenty schools (including The Academy) across the nation that have set up opportunities for youth to spend 1 or 2 weeks on the campus of a different member school. These visits have historically taken place over March break, and have also been limited to high school students, but both timing and grade level are in fact flexible, given the right circumstances.  Students interested in participating in a Network visit this year should speak with Mrs. BZ as soon as possible, as application dates, though varied from school to school, are drawing close. Any families interested in hosting a visiting student at some point this year, please let Mrs. BZ know.
HBH Recipe Contest
Do you have a secret family recipe that you would like your Academy family to sample? Mr. Langston is conducting a recipe contest and will be accepting recipes until November 23. The winning recipe will be offered for lunch on December 7. If your recipe is selected, you will receive a free lunch! .

Cornucopia Auction Item:
Ann Parker- Photograher
Ann Parker Photography
The Auction Committee has reached out to a number of new donors this year. We are so pleased to have received a donation from Ann Parker. Ann’s career as a photographer has produced over 50 one woman shows; her work is found in the permanent collections of many major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Center for Creative Photography.
For a ten year period, Ann created her Botanical Metamorphics, photograms made directly from the image onto Cibachrome paper. As no negative image is involved, these are spectacularly clear, one-of-a-kind images. She has donated an image from one of her most popular series: Fantasy Parrot Tulip. The image comes framed and ready to be displayed. It is 24 by 30 inches.
Her photographs have been collected into several books including Twilight Visions, Molas: Folk Art of the Cuna Indians, Hajj Paintings, Los Ambulantes, and several more. Ann completed her botanicals series over ten years ago and now works in the digital medium. She is the great aunt of Academy student, Emily Comeaux ’18.
Value $1,800  Minimum Bid: $900
9th & 10th Grade Parents Roundtable
Discussion with Duncan Laird, LICSW
A reminder that the 9th & 10 Grade Parents Roundtable Discussion with Duncan Laird, LICSW is coming up on Thursday, November 5 at 7:00 PM in the MacLeish Room at GCC (3rd floor, Main Building). Please contact Nora Bates Zale with any questions or concerns.
“EL LIBRO DE LA VIDA”
All students are invited to watch a 95-minute, PG-rated, animated film “The Book of Life” in Spanish, with English subtitles. The film will be shown during lunch over three days beginning on November 2, to commemorate the most important holiday in Mexico, “El Día de los Muertos.” Unlike Halloween, the Day of the Dead does not emphasize scary hobgoblins, but serves as a memorial day to remember the beloved departed. If parents have questions and/or do not wish to have their children be able to watch this film, please contact Catherine Valdez prior to November 2.
