A Message from Alumni Council

Dear Denisonian‚

It was wonderful to be on campus last month for the fall alumni council meeting. With an incredible group of Denisonians, we discussed opportunities for our alumni to be involved with their alma mater, with each other, and with today’s current students. There are so many possibilities. We are particularly excited about several upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and initiatives.

Denison Everywhere is around the corner on January 26th, and we’re aiming to be #DenisonProud in at least 80 cities around the world all together in one night! Put it on your calendars now and watch for the details of where we’ll be in a region near you.
Later this winter, we’ll be seeking your participation in an alumni survey, something we haven’t done in too long.
Come April, watch for details on how you can be part of a community service project, DU Good, with your fellow Denisonians.

In the meantime, if you have ideas, wishes, feedback, or anything you want to share about your alumni experience, don’t hesitate to get in touch with any member of your alumni council via alumni@denison.edu.

Time to rethink how students experience college and successfully launch their careers

In “Fierce Education,” Denison University President Adam Weinberg writes about the role universities play in student success after graduation.

“One purpose of the college experience is to unlock a student’s potential to be the architect of their own adult lives and careers. Universities should actively rethink how they deliver that experience to students to ensure the value proposition is as compelling as possible.”

President Weinberg discusses Denison’s innovative approach — from new student orientation through undergraduate education and into post-university life — to launching students and alumni into their lives. An integral component of Denison’s framework is Denison Edge. In Memoriam

Jonathan Reynolds ’65

Renowned playwright, author, and screenwriter Jonathan R. Reynolds ’65 died on Oct. 27. He was 79 years old. In addition to his contributions to American art and culture, Jonathan had an enormous impact on Denison. An endowed gift from Jonathan has enhanced the university’s offerings in creative writing and theatre by creating a Distinguished Professorship, a Playwright-in-Residence position, and a Young Writers Workshop.

Learn about Jonathan’s legacy at Denison and read this profile published in “Denison Magazine” in 2015. Denison conferred an alumni citation upon Jonathan in 1985.

What inspired you to volunteer with Denison’s Latin American & Hispanic Alumni Association?

I wanted to give back to the school and to people who share a similar background to mine. I feel like I wasn’t involved enough with the LAH community while at Denison and wanted to change that. I think my experience can be helpful to the group.

Why is being involved with your alma mater important to you?

Much of what I have accomplished in life would not have been possible without Denison, where I was welcomed and assisted by the Denison community during my time in Granville and after graduation.

What are you reading or watching right now?

I’m reading two books: “The Night Tiger” by Yangsze Choo and “Sacred Economics” by Charles Eisenstein. I’m currently watching “Castle Rock,” “Black List,” and “Bob’s Burgers.”

How You Can Help

Seeking volunteers to DU Good this April

Denison is launching “DU Good Day” (pronounced “do good”). It’s the first-ever day of service for alumni, and we’ll be celebrating on Saturday, April 30, 2022. We need your help!

We’re currently seeking Denisonians to help organize group volunteer activities in their respective communities as part of DU Good Day. While we encourage activity on April 30, service completed any time in April will be credited.
