| Deadline Approaching: Leadership Summit Registration Closing Soon
Registration for the Leadership Summit on Homelessness & Health Care closes at midnight CT on Tuesday, September 13. Taking place October 20-21 in Nashville, this annual members-only event complements the National Conference by focusing on leadership development, networking, and strategic planning. This year we especially look forward to a video-conference Q&A with Acting HRSA Administrator Jim Macrae and an opportunity to honor our founding Executive Director John Lozier as he approaches retirement. | 2017 National HCH Conference Call for Proposals Now Open
We are now accepting proposals for the 2017 National HCH Conference! To take place on June 21-24, 2017, in Washington, D.C., HCH2017 will unite hundreds of individuals from across the HCH field to explore critical topics in health care and homelessness. Now is your chance to become a part of the Conference agenda by submitting a proposal reflective of our theme of “Working Together for Access!” Learn more about Conference tracks, the review process, and session formats on our Call for Proposals webpage, or watch a tutorial video to learn more about submitting a proposal. Proposals are due by 11:59 p.m. PT on October 28, 2016.

| Council to Help Lead Virtual Training Series on Social Determinants of Health
The Council will join seven other National Cooperative Agreement-holding organizations to host the first Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Academy from September 2016-February 2017. Health centers and primary care associations are invited to apply for the virtual training series—the first national initiative to offer a coordinated curriculum on multiple community-based SDOH interventions. Selected organizations will learn how to develop, implement, and sustain such interventions in their own clinics and communities through six online trainings covering topics ranging from program evaluation to best practices. Participants will also learn about training and technical assistance resources and enjoy unique networking opportunities. Learn about the SDOH Academy and apply by Thursday, September 15.

| New Webinar Series Addresses Trauma Informed Care
The Council is partnering with the Coldspring Center for Social and Health Innovation to present a unique 4-part webinar series on trauma informed care (TIC) beginning October 5. Featuring Coldspring Chief Innovation Officer Matt Bennett, this series will examine how the TIC paradigm can play a critical role not only in transforming providers’ approaches to care, but also in informing direct advocacy for real solutions to end homelessness. The virtual trainings will begin with an introductory webinar examining the foundations of the trauma informed paradigm from 3-4:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 5. | Upcoming Webinar to Explore Intimate Partner Violence and HCH
In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the National HCH Council and Futures Without Violence will host a webinar on intimate partner violence (IPV) at 1 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, October 12. “Responding to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV): Tools & Resources for HCH Staff” will explore the issue in the context of HCH programs, which routinely address IPV on a weekly, even daily, basis due to its prevalence among people experiencing homelessness. Exploring the ways that HCH staff identify and respond to IPV in their programs, this webinar will share strategies for creating a trauma-informed environment, building community partnerships, and training and supporting staff. | Archived Webinar Now Available: Medication-Assisted Opioid Treatment for Patients Without Homes
On August 18, the National HCH Council presented a webinar addressing treatment for opioid addiction among people experiencing homelessness. The U.S. is facing an opioid epidemic, and for people without homes, the situation is even more severe. Complementing a recent policy brief, this webinar identified challenges to treating opioid addiction with Medication Assisted Treatment (Buprenorphine) in a health center environment; discussed provider practices to overcome these challenges to promote access and recovery; and provided an update on federal legislative and administrative efforts to address the opioid crisis. | Member Spotlight: CHC in Davenport, IA, Seeks HCH NP or PA Established in 1975, Community Health Care, Inc. (CHC) is the largest Federally Qualified Health Center in Iowa and a committed member of the Council. Located in Iowa’s Quad Cities region, a greater metropolitan area nestled along the banks of the Mississippi River, CHC operates eight medical and dental facilities including the Homeless Outreach Clinic in Davenport. Each year, this clinic provides free, high-quality health care to over 1,000 adult and pediatric patients without homes, as well as resources and additional assistance to patients in need of other services.
