COVID-19 update for families: April 9, 2020

As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, there are ongoing questions about how our schools are impacted. We are committed to communicating with families at least weekly in order to keep you informed.
Staff at Central Park shared a message to students and families that resonates with us all!

Schools and district center closed to public, district services continue

While Roseville Area Schools continue to provide distance learning to students, we will close our buildings to the public beginning Monday, April 13 – except for Little Canada and Central Park, where we will continue to offer emergency child care. We are closing these buildings to the public in order to protect the health and wellbeing of our employees, our students, families and community.
But staff are still working! If you have a question or need assistance, staff are monitoring phones and will return calls and emails as soon as possible.
Important things to know:
  • Emergency child care will continue to operate Monday through Friday at Little Canada and Central Park.
  • Meal distribution will continue at Brimhall, Central Park, Little Canada and more than 20 locations throughout the community.
  • Beginning April 22, we will begin delivering paper learning materials every other week to families of elementary grade students via the U.S. Postal Service.
  • We are still working with some families of kindergartners who need devices for distance learning. Additional information will be available soon about when devices will be available. Information about access to devices. Information about access to internet services.
  • The food shelf at Roseville Area High School will continue to be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Learn more about the Roseville Area Schools Food Shelf at RAHS.
No class tomorrow!
Don't forget, Friday is a non-school day!

Distance learning survey

We'd like to hear from families about distance learning. Please complete this survey to let us know what is working, what could be better and if you have any other feedback. Your feedback is anonymous.
Maslow's heierarchy of needs

Basic need resources during COVID-19

Attendance

Families have been asking about how we are tracking attendance during distance learning. We will assume positive attendance for all students and will monitor signs of engagement with teachers via email/messages, assignment submission, participation in synchronous learning, logging into Seesaw (for elementary students) and Schoology (for secondary). We will reach out to students and families if we are not seeing signs of engagement.

Grading and report cards

Distance learning provides new challenges to our students, families and staff. Teachers are focused on the most critical
things for students to learn and also help students see how they are progressing towards those learning
targets.
Teachers will assign work, provide feedback and grade work. Recognizing that families may be dealing with numerous challenges that impact their day-to-day lives, there will be no penalties for late work.
Grading in elementary
Students in kindergarten through sixth grade will be given a grade on the report card where their teacher can confidently mark a student's progress. In areas where the teacher is not able to confidently mark a student's progress, they will be marked as NE (not evaluated).
Progress reports for students with disabilities will be completed as stated in the student's IEP/IDLP.
Grading in secondary
Students in grades seven and eight will receive a "Pass" or "No Mark" for their final grade in trimester 3. Trimester 3 grades will not impact final year-end grades.
Students in grades 9 – 12 will receive a "Pass" or "No Mark" for their final grade in trimester 3. However, students can request a final letter grade if there is an extenuating circumstance, such as possible NCAA eligibility or college entrance requirements.

ACT

Rescheduled ACT exam for juniors

Juniors (class of 2021) were supposed to take the ACT exam at school on March 24. Because of the school closure, we will offer a district ACT testing day on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 for the current juniors.

Class of 2020 graduation

We know that the Class of 2020's vision of what graduation looks like has changed wildly with the COVID-19 global pandemic. While many traditions and expectations are being disrupted, we know that celebrating the completion of high school is tremendously important, and we are planning for offering as positive and powerful an experience as we can for our soon-to-be graduates at RAHS, FAHS and the adult learning center.
We are planning for a meaningful digital graduation experience for seniors, and will involve staff and students in this process. Please watch for more information about this soon!

Nutrition workers on the go

Did you know that we are serving nearly 2,000 free meals a day to students in our district? Between March 18 and April 3, the district served approximately 30,000 meals! Learn more about accessing free meals.
