Community Engagement: New Partnership

SOE's International Training & Education Program (ITEP) andĀ Global Learning PartnersĀ (GLP) will collaborate to promote dialogue for justice and peace worldwide. GLP was developed by Jane Vella and the Jubilee Popular Education Center in 1981. Vella utilized her international experiences and knowledge of formal and participatory education to establish a series of training courses, Dialogue Educationā¢, which are the foundation of today's GLP courses.

United Kingdom educators, including representatives from England, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland,Ā visited SOEĀ to learn more about promoting equity, social justice, and antiracism in educator preparation programs. SOE faculty shared their experiences and lessons learned in providing inclusive and antiracist pedagogy and practices in their curricula.

Research: Outstanding Dissertation Award

Dr. Cheyenne Batista (EdD ā22) was awarded the prestigious American Education Research Association (AERA) Division A 2023 Award for Outstanding Dissertation for her dissertation, āāI Am Not Scary. I Am Strong. Thereās a Difference.ā Disrupting Misogynoir and Transforming Interpersonal Conflict for Black Women Education Leaders: A Multiple Case Study.ā More information about Dr. Batista's AERA achievement will be in next month's newsletter.

Lynne Brenner Ganek, SOE Advisory Board member and adjunct faculty member, presented to the Producing Multi-Platform Content class at Canisius College. Students explored and produced an episode of an original podcast series, a video trailer for the podcast series, and related social media content.
Students Francesca Smith (EdD '23) and Madelyn Smith (MEd '25) presented at the March 2023 Council for Exceptional Children Convention and Expo. Francesca presented the poster, "Leveraging Biliteracy for Equitable Outcomes in Dual Language English Reading Instruction." Madelyn presentedĀ the paper, "Supporting Literacy Identity through Culturally Responsive Practices in Reading Intervention" (with SOE faculty Dr. Alida Anderson, Dr. Sarah Irvine Belson, and Ms. Danielle Sodani).
In March, the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) Conference included SOE ITEP faculty Dr. Elizabeth A. Worden, Dr. Michael Gibbons, Dr. Jisun Jeong, and program alumĀ Adam MedadiĀ (MA '22) as members of its planning committee and as presenters and participants.
