Keeping Toros Informed

To keep the CSUDH community up to date with the latest news and developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the fall semester and campus operations, this newsletter will be providing routine updates throughout the crisis.

Regional Stay at Home

COVID-19 cases have continued to rise dramatically throughout California. In response, the governor announced last week that new Regional Stay at Home orders would go into effect if a region’s ICU capacity dips below 15 percent. The Southern California region went below that percentage over the weekend, triggering the new regional order through at least December 27.

The LA County order [PDF] remains in effect and has been revised to align with the regional order. Key updates include:

Halt to indoor and outdoor dining at restaurants; takeout and delivery only
Public and private gatherings with different households are prohibited
Indoor retail capacity capped at 20%
Non-essential travel/activities outside the home is prohibited; residents should remain home
Persons conducting essential activities outside the home should wear face coverings and maintain physical distance

COVID Notification Laws

The State of California has recently passed two legislative bills related to COVID-19. Senate Bill 1159 and Assembly Bill 685 establish new rules for reporting of positive cases, and for determining and advising employees on the availability of COVID-related compensation.

In response to these new bills, CSUDH Human Resources (HR) will begin providing campus-wide emails communicating positive COVID-19 cases at specific locations on campus, including steps the campus is taking to address safety issues. In addition, on-campus employees with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis will get comprehensive information from HR on benefits available to them. Off-campus reported COVID-19 cases will not result in a campus notification.

Implementing and enforcing adequate safety protocols is important in keeping our campus community safe, including students in Housing, students taking face-to-face classes, and essential employees working from campus.

As a reminder: If you have contracted COVID-19, whether you have been on campus or not, please report your case to the confidential hotline at (310) 243-2076.

Only on-campus cases require notice to campus.

Symptom Self-Screening Tool

All students and employees who need to come to campus are required to conduct a self-screening for symptoms of COVID-19. A self-screening app is available in the iToros app.
