DART Mission Impact Changed Asteroid’s Motion in Space
Analysis of data obtained by the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) investigation team shows the spacecraft’s kinetic impact with its target asteroid, Dimorphos, successfully altered the asteroid’s orbit. This marks humanity’s first time purposely changing the motion of a celestial object and the first full-scale demonstration of asteroid deflection technology.

| Johns Hopkins APL Develops Methods to Capture and Destroy ‘Forever Chemicals’
The Environmental Protection Agency recently declared perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, an urgent public health and environmental issue. APL scientists recently demonstrated a technique to capture PFAS and two ecofriendly ways to destroy them, building a portfolio of technologies aimed at enabling full PFAS remediation.

Developed by APL researchers, initially under DARPA's Lifelong Learning Machines program, Meta Arcade enables the artificial intelligence community to modify common arcade games and measure how well an autonomous agent can handle those changes.

Call for Abstracts: 2023 Submarine Technology Symposium
May 9-11, 2023 • APL's Kossiakoff Center
Submarine Technology Symposium (STS) is a three-day conference held at APL that is a premiere opportunity for U.S. Navy leadership, industry and academia to engage in productive technical exchanges. The symposium includes selected displays of new technology developments. Speakers generally allow time for Q&A, and there is time for discussion and networking. Members of industry, government and academia are invited to submit abstracts for presentation. Submission deadline is Nov. 18, 2022. Presentations and exhibits will be selected based on technical content and relevance to the symposium theme and session topics.

| Bowman, Phillips Earn Society of Women Engineers Honors
Recognizing the leadership and technical contributions of two APL staff members, the Society of Women Engineers has honored Alice Bowman with the prestigious 2022 Resnik Challenger Medal and Kerri Phillips with its Emerging Leader Award.
