Greetings. We wanted to give an update on what is going on in Haiti and with FGIM during this time unrest. First, we want to praise God that all our staff, church members, and Faith House girls are safe.
Please to pray for Haiti as the country is experiencing major protests and civil unrest. People are taking to the streets in protest to demand the president of Haiti to step down. People are upset about the fuel outage, kids not being able to go to school, prices of goods continuing to go up, the lack of access to supplies, and the fact that corruption in the government has skyrocketed. People have become desperate due to lack of access to basic human necessities.
The girls at Faith House are safe. The girls and many in Haiti have been on lockdown for safety reasons. They were able to attend church on Sunday, but could not attend youth group in the evening due to safety concerns. New Perspectives Church is still continuing with Sunday morning worship services, but for the time being, has paused evening services and events due to road blocks and security concerns. Many schools are closed due to the unstable situation right now. Currently our school is closed until it is safe for our students and teachers to travel on the roads.
Our family was scheduled to fly back over a week ago but learned from the U.S. State Department that our travel cannot be authorized until there is stability in the country of Haiti. Since I (Pierre) serve in the United States Air Force, the State Department has prohibited travel for all Department of Defense and military personnel until further notice. We tried everything in our power to return but were unsuccessful in doing so. While we are desperately wanting to return, we are realizing that it is ultimately up to the Lord to open the doors. We covet your prayers during this season as well.
Pray for the people of Haiti and that change will happen soon. Pray for peace, pray for stability, pray for unity, pray for divine intervention. We know God is in control even in the midst of the chaos and He is at work even now. We are hopeful because of Jesus Christ: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Please overcome Haiti, Lord Jesus.
In the process of writing this newsletter, things in Haiti have worsened related to access to food. People can't even purchase food because the prices are too high or the stores are closed due to protests. There is little to no fuel in many places, which means supply trucks can't make deliveries as often. The result is that families are going hungry and are not able to purchase basic supplies to live. The situation is constantly shifting and FGIM is searching for ways to provide relief. The need is great right now and you can make a difference by being financial partners with FGIM in our relief efforts. With the funds you donate, we plan on buying supplies of rice, beans, and oil when markets are open to distribute to families in our community. If you can help, please click the Give a Gift link at the bottom of the page and designate your gift to Relief Effort.
We covet your prayers and ask that you sincerely pray for each prayer request in a way that would cause God to move in a mighty way in our midst. The prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective!
In Christ,
Pierre & Lorphine St Louis
