STAR Net's Keliann LaConte Selected as 2018-2019 Fullbright Global Scholar
Join us in congratuating Keliann as she will soon be traveling overseas to work with universities and public libraries on the topic of STEM learning. This summer, she will be hosted by the University of South Australia in Adelaide. During her visit, she hopes to learn more about STEM learning in Australian libraries, while also sharing about the amazing work and collaborations around STEM in U.S. public libraries.
Her project is designed to leave librarians, scientists, engineers, and educators with new ideas, resources, and collaborations for supporting STEM learning in libraries. To that end, she will be conducting research and providing professional development. Her work will provide a snapshot of the state of STEM learning efforts in Australian libraries and develop promising directions for ongoing collaboration at the intersection of STEM and libraries.

Parker Solar Probe Launch: How Will Your Library be Involved?
Note: During our Summer Reading break, we'll be highlighting some important past webinars.
In the summer of 2018, NASA will launch the Parker Solar Probe. This small, car-sized spacecraft will travel into the Sun’s atmosphere, within four million miles of our star’s surface. Listen to Space Science Institute’s Brooks Mitchell and Dr. Paul Dusenbery to learn all about NASA’s first mission to “touch” the Sun and ways that your library can be involved.

The STAR Library Network (STAR Net) is a hands-on learning network for libraries and their communities across the country. STAR Net focuses on helping library professionals build their STEM skills by providing “science-technology activities and resources” (STAR) and training to use those resources. Plus, engage public audiences nationwide in informal and lifelong learning with the excitement of exploration and discovery through new NASA@ My Library and Project BUILD resources!
STAR Net is built upon a strong network of collaborators and partners, led by the Space Science Institute’s (SSI) National Center for Interactive Learning (NCIL). Partners include the American Library Association’s Public Programs Office, Lunar and Planetary Institute, Afterschool Alliance, Education Development Center, Datum Advisors, Cornerstones of Science, and the Pacific Science Center. Major funding is provided by the National Science Foundation, NASA Science Mission Directorate, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
