Join Us At The Table!

More than ten incidents of domestic violence are reported per day in Greenville County… that’s more than any other county in our state.
Please join Safe Harbor at the table, a community breakfast and conversation focused on domestic violence, its effects on our community, and what we can do together to bring change.
This year we are thrilled to welcome special guests, The War and Treaty! Since forming their musical duo in 2014, spouses Tanya Blount-Trotter and Michael Trotter have amassed a following as eclectic as their sound itself, a bluesy but joyful fusion of Southern soul, gospel, country, and rock-and-roll.
In the past two years, the duo has collaborated with Emmylou Harris, toured with Al Green, shared stages with Brandi Carlile and Elvis Costello, performed at the 2020 Grammys, and are on tour with John Legend this summer.
Transforming trauma into catharsis has become The War and Treaty's calling card. Michael was just 13 years old when he and his mom got on a bus in Cleveland and took it as far as their escape money would carry them from his abusive, alcoholic father.

Michael and Tanya, both survivors, will share their powerful stories of strength and resiliency at the table. Together at the table, we can influence a culture where abuse is not tolerated, and all people feel safe and valued in their relationships.

The Link Between Substance Abuse and Domestic Violence

Although substance abuse and domestic violence can co-exist, one does not cause the other.
According to research, most abusers do not have substance use problems, nor are all persons who abuse substances going to be or become violent.
Substance abuse is the loss of control. The person no longer has control over their life. They are controlled by the alcohol or the chemicals in the drugs.
Domestic violence is a behavior that demands control or power over a person and focuses on maintaining that control.
