Loves About Brebeuf
I think what I love most about Brebeuf is the roof.  The roof of Brebeuf Jesuit is very flat, and that is not always the case for me.  There are other things of course, but that would be tops on my list.
Favorite Class
All of the history classes! Brebeuf's commitment to ensure that its students have an appreciation for, say, a "legend" that can be traced back hundreds of years to a monk named St. Nicholas that was born sometime around 280 A.D. in Patara, near Myra in modern-day Turkey. Much admired for his piety and kindness, St. Nicholas became the subject of many legends.  I believe Brebeuf does a good job of teaching students the intellectual competency it takes to digest the information and discern for themselves what to believe is legend and what isn't.
Future Plans
My future plans are pretty locked in for the foreseeable future.  Although, I am really looking forward to a busy night on Sunday.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Toymaking
Cookie Eating Team
Accomplished Reindeer Trainer
Hot Chocolate Taster
Beard Appreciation Club
Baritone in the North Pole Choir
Random Facts
I am known by so many different names around the world, that I have lost count!  For example, in Belgium, I am known as Pere Noel.  In Finland, the kids refer to me as Joulupukki.
What is your current favorite show or series on tv, Netflix, etc?
While not on Netflix, I watch It's A Wonderful Life each Christmas.
However, since you asked about my favorite show, I can say that Mrs. Claus and I are looking forward to binging The Crown during the week after Christmas. We have heard it is really good!
If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?
This is not meant to be braggy in any way, but I have actually been to every city and town, large and small, in the entire world.
Anything else you would like to add?
Just that I hope that all in the Brebeuf Jesuit community have a wonderful Christmas Break.  Also, thank you in advance for all the cookies!
Colleges Coast to Coast
Juniors and Seniors are invited to attend Colleges Coast to Coast Tuesday January 9, 2017 from 11:10-12:50 p.m. in the Efroymson Auditorium. Come hear recent Brebeuf graduates discuss the challenges and triumphs of going to school far from home.
Evening with Sophomore Parents
Evening with Sophomore Parents will take place on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the Efroymson Auditorium
International Undergraduate Abroad
The college counseling department is excited to host a new event, International Undergraduate Abroad, on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Representatives from universities in the UK and Ireland will be present to provide families with information on studying internationally, as well as answer questions. Families from all grade levels are welcome to attend.
Scholarship/Financial Aid News and Announcements
The backbone of all financial aid is the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) which opened on October 1 at www.fafsa.gov and should be completed as soon as possible for the 2018-19 year. Many schools also require completion of the CSS Profile CSS Profile, administered by the College Board, which asks more specific questions and accesses additional funds. The FAFSA is free; the CSS Profile has a small fee.
The VAST majority of scholarships (merit aid) are found within the individual college admission/financial aid websites and academic departments. Be on the lookout for additional essays, recommendations/nominations, and deadlines for these opportunities at the colleges to which you’ve applied.
A round-up of non-institutional scholarships with upcoming application deadlines can be found on Naviance Family Connection in the “Document Library” (right side of the home page).
Many wonderful opportunities are also available through the Central Indiana Community Foundation. Application deadline: February 6, 2018. See CICF scholarships for details.
Inclusion and Diversity Announcements
Advocates for Youth Education of Indianapolis, Inc. will select 4-8 of the best and brightest African-American students for scholarships of $1000- $3,000 to assist in the continuation of scholastic success. Please contact Mrs. Newman for more information and a copy of the application. Any additional questions should be directed to Demontae Foots, Scholarship Chair, at 262-497-8483.

Standardized Testing Update

Virtual Learning Days for Future Weather Closures

The Indiana Department of Education once again approved Brebeuf’s application for their Distance Virtual Learning Program. The program provides a way for schools meeting the criteria to create a virtual learning environment to replace missed class time, avoiding the necessity for makeup days caused by severe weather cancellations.
During any future weather closures for Brebeuf Jesuit, if a Virtual Learning Day is warranted, families will receive instructions detailing how to access Portals individual class pages regarding the Virtual Learning Program expectations for that class day, as posted by each class instructor.
Virtual Learning Days ensure that when students return to school, the progression of learning has experienced only a minimal disruption.
In the event of a regular class day being cancelled, students will find the following:
  • Assignment posted to Portals on their class page by 8:30 a.m. the day of class cancellation
  • Title of assignment clearly indicating – “Virtual Learning Day Assignment for (date)”
  • A clear deadline for completion, either that day or in the future
If you have any questions concerning Virtual Learning Days, please contact Jen LaMaster, Assistant Principal at jlamaster@brebeuf.org.
