Baptism of the Lord Sunday
Sunday, we remembered the baptism of Jesus, but we also were called to remember our own baptism. Read Mark 14-11. Know that God says, "You are my beloved." The waters of baptism are about love. You are made new! This water gives us a new identity and calls us into a life of love, of service, and compassion. If you missed Sunday's message, watch it HERE on Facebook or HERE on YouTube, and be encouraged to hear that "Water Always Finds a Way!" You are invited to come by this week and spend some time in our worship center. Light a candle, come to the water, make the sign of the cross, spend some time in prayer, remember that you are baptized and be thankful!
Sunday was also the day we commissioned our new leaders for 2021. Find their names listed HERE, and please prayerfully support these men and women who desire to more fully serve the Lord through PHUMC. They have each committed to pray for us, to worship with us, to participate in small groups, to embrace tithing and generosity, and to use their God-given gifts in the service of Jesus Christ! We are so grateful for their willingness to serve.
Be sure to join us THIS SUNDAY, as we continue to follow Jesus and his ministry in Galilee with a message on how God calls out the GOOD in us!
This Friday and Saturday our confirmands have their last official confirmation gathering until Confirmation Sunday. Their time together since August has been anything but normal for they are the "COVID Confirmation Class". They sat 6' apart in the worship center, wore masks when moving around, brought their own brown-bag dinners to eat outside each week, and they won't get the retreat experience we wish we could provide. But they showed up! They asked questions, they participated, (and yes, they made typical middle school sarcastic comments - ha!) I have enjoyed getting to know this group of young people and am excited to see how they will choose to continue their faith journey. I invite you to pray for these 10 confirmands this weekend:
Madden Brown
Christopher Collins
Davis Flowers
Emily Kay Kirk
Carly Long
Zachary Miller
Connor Nichols
Emmy Pruett
Scarlett Rolph
Lexi Williams

They will meet Friday in the worship center for one last class, then head to Camp Wesley Pines Saturday morning for some fun in the pines! Confirmation parents: check your email for time and paperwork for this weekend. We will hold off on Confirmation Sunday until a day when more of us can safely gather. We want their church family to be here with them when and if they decide to confirm their faith!

Many Thanks!

Cards continue to arrive at the church office filled with gratitude for all the hope and comfort YOU helped to spread over the Advent and Christmas season! Words of thanks for the baked goods shared with East Flora Elementary School, thanks for the cards received by seniors at long-term care facilities, and medical professionals, and emails of gratitude from individuals YOU have touched with the love of Christ through a note, a meal, or a gift card. The twelve days of Christmas may be over, but you can continue to spread God's love and light throughout the year with random acts of kindness. Please know that YOU make a difference!
WORSHIP SCHEDULE
Friends, we are taking the new year one month at a time!
During January, the recommendation of our Leadership Team is to continue meeting at 10 am, both outdoors, (*weather permitting), and online via Facebook and YouTube. We will make adjustments in February if needed.
*If we need to cancel the outdoor service due to rain or extreme cold, we will make that call at 9 am - watch your email and social media.

PHUMC Youth

"What Does the Church Do?" That's the question we'll be looking at and living out this semester as we kick off 2021 together this Sunday, January 17th, from 5 - 6:30. (Dress for staying outside, and bring a brown-bag dinner to eat at 5). The first thing we'll do is welcome our new confirmands with a night of fellowship and fun aimed at getting to know each other and exploring how we all fit in God's design.
