Time to Act: Progress on making PSU a more equitable campus

One year into an ambitious three-year racial justice and equity action plan, Portland State leaders say progress has been made but there is still more work to be done to realize an equitable and just university experience for all. Nominations due for Excellence Awards & Honorary Degrees

The deadline to submit an initial nomination for the PSU Faculty & Staff Excellence Awards is this Friday. Cover sheets are due Friday, Jan. 27 with the full nomination information due by Friday, Feb. 10. PSU Excellence awards recognize individuals who have outstanding scholarship accomplishments at Portland State University.

The deadline to submit nominations for 2023 honorary degrees is Tuesday, Jan. 31.

PSU’s honorary degrees acknowledge individuals for outstanding scholarship, artistic accomplishments or public service. Please refer to Policies and Procedures for requirements and fill out this Nomination Form to nominate someone to be awarded an honorary degree at the 2023 commencement ceremonies. Questions can be directed to president@pdx.edu.

Christopher Carey named Faculty Athletics Representative

Portland State University has named Christopher Carey as the new Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) for the Vikings program. Carey, an Associate Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at PSU, will serve as a liaison between the institution and the athletics department.

Share your memories of popular PSU professor Bob Lockwood

In late December 2022, Robert “Bob” Lockwood, Criminology & Criminal Justice Professor Emeritus and former PSU NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative, passed away as a result of an illness. He started his career at PSU in 1975 as one of the original faculty members in Administration of Justice, which eventually became the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice (CCJ). Because so many around campus valued Lockwood as a mentor, colleague and friend, the CCJ Department invites the campus community to contribute their own memories, tributes, and condolences to share with his family.

Join the career readiness community of practice

Are you interested in incorporating career readiness into your course or program curricula? Join a learning community with faculty across PSU this spring term. Participants in the Career Readiness Community of Practice will get the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the NACE career readiness competencies, make changes in their own practice and course curricula, and engage in generative discussion with colleagues. All instructors are invited to learn more and apply. Applications are due by 5:00 pm on Monday, Feb. 13, 2023.

Vikings Athletics Hall of Fame inductions this week

Celebrate Portland State Athletics history and the newest inductees to the Portland State Athletics Hall of Fame this week. A Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place Friday, Jan. 27 at Portland State's Smith Memorial Student Center Ballroom. It is sure to be a great night for Portland State Athletics, and we look forward to seeing you as we celebrate the tremendous achievements of these proud Vikings.
