In Case You Missed It

Indoor Meeting and Event Planning

New guidelines are available regarding hosting indoor meetings and events on campus. Food and beverage service may be permitted at indoor and outdoor in-person gatherings so long as all criteria are met. Vaccinated attendees may be unmasked while actively eating or drinking. Event and meeting organizers are strongly encouraged to consider holding their events and meetings outdoors if food and drink are to be served and conditions allow.

Flu Vaccine Mandate

The University of California has issued a systemwide executive order requiring all students, faculty, other academic appointees, and staff who are living, learning, or working on campus to receive or opt out of a flu vaccination on or before Nov. 19, 2021. Flu vaccinations are available on campus and in the community. To make an appointment, students should go to MyStudentChart, and employees can visit flu.ucsd.edu.

Your Questions Answered

Question: How do I submit proof that I received a flu vaccine this year?
Answer: Campus employees should submit their attestation or declination of the flu vaccine through the Flu Vaccination Attestation or Declination form no later than Nov. 19, 2021. You must sign in with your AD login.
Students can indicate if they received a flu vaccine outside of UC San Diego by going to “preventative care” from the menu or main page of the MyStudentChart site.
Question: What happens if I opt out of receiving a flu vaccine?
Answer: Individuals who wish to opt out may affirmatively do so in writing but will be required to wear masks or face coverings at UC San Diego through the end of the flu season even if COVID-19 requirements are loosened.
Question: Why is UC requiring flu immunizations?
Answer: Based on its review of guidance from public health authorities and scientific studies, the University views vaccination against influenza as an important part of actions needed for the safe return to in-person activities as well as for protecting the public health of the surrounding communities. The COVID-19 pandemic is continuing, and the potential confluence with influenza viruses remains a threat to the health and safety of the UC community and the public at large. The potential for a high burden on health care systems continues due to the possibility of both influenza and SARS-CoV-2 viruses circulating at the same time.
