Take Advantage — Free Museum Passesby Stephen Kaldon

In addition to the many benefits offered to the NYU staff, such as theater and movie ticket discounts, before tax commuting expenses, and the various healthcare plans, there is a lesser-known benefit that offers a respite from the hectic work-a-day world, one that will give you a chance to enjoy all the city has to offer. And, unlike the other benefits you are asked to contribute to, this benefit comes at no cost to you, and at a savings of $25 per admission per person. This benefit is the passes that admit up to four staff and/or guests into two of the most prestigious museums in New York City.
The first is the Museum of Modern Art, aka MoMA. Founded in 1929, MoMA is dedicated to “celebrate creativity, openness, tolerance, and generosity” and aims to be inclusive — “both onsite and online—where diverse cultural, artistic, social, and political positions are welcome”. Located on 53rd street in midtown, the museum offers a view of “modern” artworks, a time period considered between the Industrial Revolution (mid-18th century) to the present day. MoMA also offers film and education programs, music in their sculpture garden, and other programs educating the public on Modern Art.

Current exhibits at MoMA, through 2023, include Barbara Kruger: Thinking of You. I Mean Me. I Mean You, and Just Above Midtown: Changing Spaces.
MoMA is located at 11 West 53rd Street in Manhattan (between 5th and 6th Avenues), and is open Sun - Fri from 10:30 am - 5:30 pm, and Sat from 10:30 am to 7:00 pm.
The second museum you can obtain passes for is the Whitney Museum of American Art which, as its name states, is “the preeminent institution devoted to the art of the United States, with a special focus on living artists”.

Designed by architect Renzo Piano, the Whitney is located in the High Line district at 99 Gansevoort Street in Manhattan. Currently on view is Edward Hopper’s New York” (an artist that the Whitney has an extensive collection of), and “In the Balance: Between Painting and Sculpture, 1965-1985”.
Make it a full day of art and eating by dining at the many great restaurants located around the High Line and Meat Packing district, located close to the Whitney.
The Whitney is located at 99 Gansevoort Street, and is open Mon, Wed, Thu, Sat, and Sun from 10:30 am - 6 pm, Fri from 10:30 am - 10:00pm, and is closed on Tue.

Meet the LeaderSunita Devi
Director, Kimmel Center
Q: Do you have any hobbies? A: I am a massive football fan. Football as in soccer! Not American football. Since moving to New Jersey I've been a season ticket holder for Gotham FC. I support all women's sports really so any chance I can get to a game, whether that is the New York Liberty or supporting our Gotham girls, I am there.
Q: What has it been like working at a University compared to previous organizations? A: I've been at NYU for nearly 10 years. I've been fortunate to work in two divisions at NYU (URPA and Campus Services) and both areas have really encouraged relationship-building and community. Not that my previous work life didn't have a community, but I think our University setting goes out of its way to really create one here. I've been able to cultivate fantastic friendships on campus which makes it so much easier to come to work every day. I tell my team all the time, it's like a family and I really love that about my work.
Q: Where did you work before NYU? A: I worked in PR and events prior to coming to NYU. I created brand awareness around international niche products such as Amouage, Montale, and Cire Trudon. It was fun and I got to learn a lot about the beauty industry and business management overall.
Q: What was your first job? A: McDonalds in my hometown of Wolverhampton, England. I was the Queen of the chicken and fish station.
Q: Are you a part of any charities? What are some charities that you like to support? A: Every holiday season I work with homeless shelters in NJ such as the Rain Foundation. I organize a clothing donation drive to help LGBTQ+ youth. We accept any donations but focus on socks, hats, gloves, and coats to help keep those in need a little warmer in the winter.
Q: If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and what would say to them? A: Michelle Obama. I just absolutely love everything about her. I would simply ask if we could be friends. That's all.
Q: If you could learn any language fluently, what would it be? A: Spanish. I understand it pretty well but I have to lip read which can be really awkward at times.
Q: What did you do with your first paycheck? A: I bought a Motorola flip phone.

Cybersecurity Vigilance and Fraud Prevention
by Tim Hesler
In this quarterly series of articles, we continue to highlight certain cyber risks and ways to fight the fraudsters, both at work and at home. This short piece is meant to provide a few tips to improve cyber hygiene and readiness.

1. What Does Cybersecurity Mean for NYU?
In the 2022 Gartner Board of Directors Survey, 88% of board members classified cybersecurity as a business risk. Cyber fraud attempts and attacks have operational, financial, reputational, and strategic risk consequences that are expensive to mitigate.
We all must be diligent to keep our cybersecurity resilient and hardened since it is essential to run our university. We are all interconnected. It protects against security threats and prevents data breaches and other enterprise cybersecurity threats. The typical ‘trust’ of the human element can compromise cybersecurity risks as cybercriminals use their bag of sophisticated tools to undermine and social engineer us as targets.
2. Common Cybersecurity Attacks – Be Aware and Protect!- Phishing and social-engineering-based attacks that trick authorized users with proper access credentials into taking action that opens the door for unauthorized users, allowing them to transfer information and data out (data exfiltration).
- Password-related account compromises where unauthorized users deploy software or other hacking techniques to identify common and reused passwords they can exploit to gain access to confidential systems, data, or assets.
Misuse of information attacks against authorized users that inadvertently or deliberately disseminate or otherwise misuse information or data to which they have legitimate access. - Network-related and man-in-the-middle attacks may be able to eavesdrop on unsecured network traffic or redirect or interrupt traffic as a result of failure to encrypt messages within and outside an organization’s firewall.
- Supply chain attacks where vendors, key partners, or other third-party assets or systems (or code) become compromised, creating a vector to attack or exfiltrate information from enterprise systems.
- Denial-of-service attacks overwhelm enterprise systems and cause a temporary shutdown or slowdown. Distributed DoS (DDoS) attacks also flood systems, but by using a network of devices.
- Ransomware attacks where insidious and malicious software infects an organization’s systems and restricts access to encrypted data or systems until a ransom is paid to the perpetrator.
3. Secure Your Sensitive Personal Identifiable Information (PII)
Personal Identifiable Information (PII) is any information that can be used by a cybercriminal to identify or locate an individual. PII includes information such as name, address, phone number, date of birth, Social Security Number, IP address, location details, or any other physical or digital identity data.
You should be very cautious about the information you type in online. It is recommended that you only show the minimum about yourself on social media and be cautious about photos. Consider reviewing your privacy settings across all your social media accounts. Adding your home address, birth date, or any other PII information will dramatically increase your risk of a security breach and exposure. Hackers will take advantage.
To keep up to date with the latest risks or if you have any questions on cybersecurity, I am happy to help. You should always ask NYU IT as well.
