A View from the Board
The following is the latest in a series of monthly messages from the RVR Master Association Board, called “A View From the Board.” The messages summarize recent Board decisions and discussions, and are designed to bring RVR homeowners up to date on issues important to the community.

***

In June, we told you about the RVR golf course owner’s renewed efforts to develop the driving range for uses completely unrelated to golf. And, we shared with you his new focus: to take away your voice, by asking the Town of Carbondale to change the rules regarding how a Planned Unit Development (PUD) can be amended under the Town’s Unified Development Code (UDC).

The current rules (UDC) say the owner must get signatures of at least 50 percent of all property owners within a Planned Unit Development, like RVR, before submitting a rezoning application to the Town’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

Now, the golf course owner wants to change those rules so that his voice is the only one that counts in submitting an application. This is step one in his push to place a boutique hotel or high-density housing where the golf course driving range is today.

The Board unanimously opposes these efforts. We believe the RVR community joins us in our opposition. The last time we did a community survey on this topic, 80 percent of you said you were strongly opposed to any development on the driving range.

The Town of Carbondale has placed consideration of this item on the Planning and Zoning Commission’s Aug. 26 agenda. This is a major opportunity for all who want to formally object to the owner’s efforts.

We will share much more about this issue on Wednesday, July 21, at the RVR Master Association’s Annual Meeting & Golf Update. Click here to RSVP to the Annual Meeting. The RSVP will allow us to finalize the location of the meeting, based on anticipated attendance. For those of you who’ve already RSVP’d, thank you.

If you are at all interested in this matter, we encourage you to attend the July 21 meeting, and find out how and when you can make a difference.

We hope to see you at the July 21 meeting.
